1
I won't lie to you guys, I made a really silly mistake.
2
Hold on a second.
3
I was supposed to buy eight moulds.
4
I got 16.
5
Panic is starting to set in because I have my book launch in two
6
and a bit months and I have no idea what I'm doing
7
and I have to bake for everyone
8
and I have all these moulds to get through
9
and I'm really overwhelmed and what am I going to do with my life?
10
I'm going to make some carrot cakes.
11
Let me just clip you guys on.
12
That'll do.
13
Into your bowl you're going to add 300 grams of brown sugar.
14
Crack in three eggs.
15
Bloop, bloop, bloop.
16
250 grams of vegetable oil, a splash of orange juice, and to finish off the liquids, a dash of vanilla.
17
Gently whisk this together until it's all combined.
18
We're gonna start with the spices.
19
2 tablespoons of mixed spice, 2 tablespoons of ginger, 4 tablespoons of cinnamon, try not to inhale it, and lastly, 2 tablespoons of nutmeg.
20
I've grated and pressed 3 large carrots.
21
In you go.
22
Like always, give it another whisk.
23
Add in 400 grams of plain flour, and 2 tablespoons of baking powder.
24
Whisk this together until there are no dry lumps.
25
Oops.
26
I'm pouring my mixture into a piping bag, but you can put this in two 8-inch tins and cook it for about 35 minutes in a 180-degree oven, but I'm doing this.
27
This is a bit nerve-wracking.
28
I'm gonna put these in the oven for about 20 minutes at 180.
29
I actually start to get a little bit suspicious when things are going well, because these are actually coming out of the molds really easily.
30
I made a really simple vanilla buttercream.
31
I just popped 200 grams of softened butter into a bowl
32
and beat it with 300 grams of icing sugar and then added in a dash of vanilla.
33
They are so cute.
34
They're definitely going to be at my book launch.

About This Lesson

You're practicing English with "*PANIC* mode is in full swing 😰" using the Shadowing technique — a method originally developed for professional interpreter training.

Focus on sounding like the speaker — not just repeating words. With 15–30 minutes of daily practice, you'll build real-world speaking confidence.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
