Today I'm going to show you how to ask and answer 30 everyday English questions whilst having a lovely British picnic.
2
Enjoy!
3
All over my laptop.
4
Nice.
5
Question number one.
6
How are you?
7
I mean, yeah, I'm doing pretty well.
8
The sun is out.
9
I'm having a picnic, so I can't really complain, to be honest with you.
10
Question two.
11
Have you been up too much today?
12
Oh, you know, the usual stuff.
13
I woke up, went to the shop, bought some picnic supplies, came home, prepared the picnic, and here we are.
14
Question number three.
15
I need to eat.
16
Cool.
17
So what do we have for today's picnic then?
18
I'm very glad you asked.
19
So let me give you a quick tour.
20
So firstly, we have the sandwiches, of course.
21
Then we have some olives in a little green cardboard bowl thing.
22
We then have some crisps in another cardboard bowl.
23
Some strawberries.
24
These are essential to any British picnic.
25
Some beer, of course, some Prosecco, some chocolate digestives.
26
I managed to find McVitties, which are very authentic, as you can see from the GB flag there.
27
Some Haribo.
28
This weird thing.
29
Not really too sure what this is, but I thought it looked quite picnic-y, so I decided to get it.
30
Some Scottish shortbread and some cheese strings.
31
and if you know about cheese strings then well you really are British
32
and of course no picnic would be complete without the blanket.
33
Question number four how often do you cook?
34
Well breakfast of course every morning I tend to have the same thing oats,
35
protein powder, chopped up bananas and milk I don't know
36
if you can call that cooking but you know to me it is kind of cooking.
37
For lunch I normally go out and have some I don't know, sushi or something like that.
38
And for dinner, I cook every night and I have chicken salad.
39
Yeah, so two kind of fake meals a day, but still cooking nonetheless.
40
And of course, I cooked this picnic up, right?
41
This counts as cooking.
42
Are you watching anything good on Netflix at the moment?
43
I'm not really a Netflixer, to be honest.
44
I don't actually think I have an account.
45
I love olives so much I probably prefer green olives
46
but there is definitely a time and a place for black olives as well Yeah, I don't really watch Netflix I normally watch YouTube
47
or if I were to watch some Netflix I'd re-watch something I've already seen
48
so I like comedies and if I were to watch something on Netflix it would probably be Peep Show
49
and Beep Show is a very good British comedy so I definitely recommend watching that.
50
It's actually free if you live in the UK you can go on BBC iPlayer
51
and if not you'll be able to find it on Netflix.
52
Cool, sorry to interrupt but I'm seeing some great vocabulary pop up on the screen how will I remember it?
53
That is a really good question.
54
Luckily all of the vocab
55
that you see popping up on the screen will be included in a completely free pdf
56
and the link to
57
that is in the top comment enjoy do you think england is a hard place to live in
58
these sandwiches are so good very authentic ham brown bread cucumber mayo
59
there are ants everywhere though oh well do i think england is a good place to live
60
yeah I do there are some pros and cons though
61
so firstly you kind of have to know English
62
and unfortunately being okay at English isn't really as appreciated as it should be
63
so for example if you come to another country like
64
if you went to Spain or Argentina
65
and you spoke a bit of Spanish they would give you a lot of praise
66
and you would get the recognition you deserve for actually going out of your way to learn the second language.
67
The same with pretty much any other language apart from French, obviously, but any other language apart from French and English.
68
So even though it's extremely hard to learn English, if you come to the UK and your English is passable,
69
not enough people will congratulate you on that and give you the praise you deserve actually learning a hard language.
70
So you have to learn English really you need to be somewhat competent in speaking English
71
but you won't really get the praise you deserve for doing so.
72
So that's one thing, sorry about that.
73
But British people are polite so that is we are nice.
74
You do see some negative things on social media about the UK it's so depressing.
75
I think part of that is the weather.
76
The weather is quite bad but
77
when it is sunny everyone is in such a brilliant mood
78
and in general British people are really nice so I wouldn't worry about that.
79
Can be quite expensive but
80
if you get a job in the UK then that's fine it kind of compensates for
81
that and of course it does depend on where you live.
82
Oh my god.
83
strawberries so nice but in general i think i don't think it's
84
that hard to live in the uk i think once you
85
get settled we'll talk a bit later on about how to meet people
86
but there are reasons that
87
so many people move to the uk it's a nice place
88
to live very nice air quality that's one thing i will say
89
and loads and loads of parks so i'm in japan at at the moment
90
and it was an ordeal trying to find a park where I could film this video.
91
I'm actually back at the Dia Park which just goes to show how few parks there are in Japan.
92
I had to come all the way back here but it's all good.
93
You won't have that problem in England.
94
Do you like traveling?
95
Yes of course I do.
96
Have you been to Japan before?
97
So I've been to Japan two times before this.
98
This is my third time.
99
The first time was just in Tokyo for like five days so I didn't really get the proper feel for it.
100
The second time was for two months this was about two years ago
101
but this is the first time that I've kind of lived here
102
so I've been here for three months in the same place
103
so i'm guessing it's a different experience right um
104
so yeah i do like it here i know it's very boring
105
because a lot of people go to japan
106
and talk about japan how amazing it is all this stuff
107
how bad it is normally the former to be honest
108
so i'm not gonna spend this isn't like a japanese video okay this is a british picnic video
109
but i like it here
110
so yeah where will you go to where will you go
111
to next sorry these asahis are doing their job one second
112
so i really want to go to kazakhstan after this not really too sure why it's a very different vibe
113
the nature there is beautiful is
114
that sweat i'm actually sweating already is it hot in kazakhstan am i going to be okay it's hot here
115
but i fear that kazakhstan may be even hotter anyway
116
yeah i'd like to go there i also love the accent
117
you can see a deer there there you are a wild deer you don't get
118
that in england
119
so yeah um kazakhstan there'll be some good i'll be able
120
to get some good content in kazakhstan as well a lot of interesting adventures
121
and walk and talks and newsletters and stuff like that
122
so it's for the for the best what is your favorite place
123
that that you've been to
124
so i'd say maybe buenos eros amazing food good vibes good nature just a really nice city argentinian people are
125
so so nice as well vancouver i loved vancouver i was only there for like five days
126
so i can't really it's hard to say what it's like living there
127
but i had such a good time there the nature is stunning
128
and they also have i think vancouver has a very nice there's an incredible butterfly there.
129
Has a great mix of nature and like city life stuff going on. And Osaka.
130
I like Osaka a lot.
131
The only thing I'd say about Osaka is there isn't much nature in Osaka.
132
So you have to travel for about an hour, an hour and a half to get to places like this.
133
But you know, It's not that big of a deal.
134
I think British people are spoiled when it comes to nature
135
because we have these parks everywhere and they're so nice as well.
136
Okay.
137
What do you miss about England?
138
The parks, for one, definitely.
139
Watching football.
140
Because you can watch football here, but the time difference makes it a bit awkward.
141
The ants are coming.
142
Yeah, the time difference makes it slightly awkward
143
because the games tend to kick off at about 8 o'clock or midnight or like 4 a.m.
144
There's a game at 4 a.m tonight.
145
How am I going to deal with that?
146
I need to watch it as well.
147
It's a big game.
148
So I can either stay up and drink and then just right off the next day.
149
Or I can wake up really early tomorrow morning at 4 a.m and watch it probably do that.
150
I'll probably do that.
151
Probably.
152
Cups of tea.
153
Yeah, I know you can get them in other parts of the world
154
but they're just not really the same as they are in England.
155
Being in an English-speaking country is very nice of course and just the beautiful British weather.
156
That was a joke by the way.
157
What's something you're trying to improve right now?
158
Let's talk about the picnic unrelated but I put in a lot of effort to get this together.
159
Oh I've just realized these cardboard bowls, I bought two of them but they actually come in packs of five so I have ten of them.
160
Ten for two, okay fair enough.
161
Olives, so nice.
162
Sandwiches are nearly done.
163
So if you're wondering what these are, these are called cheese strings and obviously they're like the Japanese version but We have them in the UK.
164
They're very popular in the UK.
165
Mainly amongst kids.
166
It's what you'd have in a packed lunch in primary school.
167
But they're basically just fake plastic cheese.
168
But the fun is that you peel them and you can eat them like this.
169
Or you can do this.
170
This is what you used to do in school.
171
I wasn't actually allowed these when I was a kid.
172
So I watch other people.
173
I had the strictest parents when it came to food and diet and stuff like that.
174
That's why I'm eating them now.
175
They taste exactly the same as the English ones.
176
Cheese string is a man.
177
So these are just chocolate biscuits.
178
And they are completely melted under the sun, obviously.
179
Didn't really think that one through.
180
and yeah back to the question something i'm trying to improve skating
181
so i if you've been following my recent videos you know
182
that i started skating again i'm trying to get better i'm also trying to learn again not anything in particular
183
but just getting into the habit of learning something i've just stopped learning I feel like
184
when people get to a certain age, obviously you can't really relate to this because if you're watching this you're learning English, but for most people we just stop learning,
185
we stop reading, we stop trying to figure out new things we just live life
186
so I'm trying to learn again dedicating half an hour a
187
day just to learning the dearer the dearer is back very quickly
188
if you would like to practice your English with me then
189
I've just opened up a few spots in my private community
190
so here we will have three live calls together every single week
191
and you will also get exclusive access to over 50 accent training lessons as soon as you sign up.
192
So the link to that is in the top comment but there are just a few spots available so don't wait.
193
Okay back to the picnic.
194
What would you change about your daily routine.
195
Putting in contact lenses is such a pain in the arse.
196
I'm genuinely considering getting laser eye surgery because I just can't be bothered to put them in, go to the gym, take them out, shower, put them back in,
197
then take them out at night again.
198
It's terrible.
199
So much effort.
200
just like poking at my eyeballs you know it's not good
201
what's something you've learned recently
202
so everyone's very different like genetically how they were brought up everyone is very different
203
so just because someone says
204
that something works for them doesn't mean it will work for you
205
or it's best for you for example let's say someone tells you to wake up at 6am every morning
206
and have a cold shower and do two hours of work before starting the day.
207
That might be good for them but with your genetic makeup
208
and how you were brought up and your goals and stuff like that it might not be the best option for you.
209
So everyone is different so just bear that in mind.
210
Of course there are some things that are fundamentally beneficial for everyone's life.
211
So eating healthy food, this is a bad example but eating healthy food and exercising.
212
It doesn't matter what your genetics are or what your upbringing was like, but those things are going to improve your life.
213
But just the small specific details, even if it's someone you admire who tells you to go to sleep at this time, wake up at this time,
214
just because it works for them doesn't necessarily mean that it's the right thing for you to do.
215
You need to experiment and see what's best for you, you know?
216
How's the food?
217
It's good.
218
It's good.
219
I was walking around this area for about half an hour trying to find somewhere that wasn't
220
A covered in ants and B covered in deer excrement.
221
And I finally settled on this place.
222
No idea how it was going to look, but if you're watching this, then it means I've deemed it good enough for my YouTube channel.
223
What does a perfect day look like for you? So I'd wake up.
224
That's always a good way to start the day.
225
Probably go to the gym just because I feel good afterwards.
226
Have a full English breakfast.
227
Not like a huge one, but a small, high-quality one.
228
And then a pan of chocolate and an oat milk latte with a view somewhere.
229
Probably alone, but I could be there's someone else.
230
Go shopping or something.
231
Buy some nice perfume, maybe some clothes.
232
have lunch out somewhere, play some football in the afternoon with my friends
233
and have a picnic and eat nice food and have some beers
234
and stuff like that and in the night I don't know maybe meet someone special
235
or go to a bar or something like that but I love barbecue so much.
236
That's something I miss about the UK.
237
We know how to throw a good barbecue.
238
Do you think you're more introverted or extroverted.
239
These crisps are so nice.
240
Sorry, I got distracted by eating.
241
I think I'm a mix.
242
I don't think someone...
243
I think that question is too black and white, you know?
244
I think people are not just introverted or extroverted.
245
Sometimes they're introverted, sometimes they're extroverted.
246
People are complicated and it depends how they're feeling, what situation they're in, those types of things.
247
For me, I'd say I'm mainly introverted, but sometimes I feel extroverted.
248
So a mix may be 70% introverted, 30% extroverted.
249
What's your go-to comfort food?
250
probably scrambled eggs on toast very easy to make reminds me
251
of mornings you know breakfast I feel like breakfast is quite a comforting meal
252
and yeah I just
253
that meal has got me through some dark times you know
254
very easy to make nice lots of protein warm it's the comfort meal
255
what's the food you hate mushrooms i love the smell of mushrooms
256
but this the taste and the texture are disgusting i hope one day
257
because obviously your your tastes change as you get a a
258
bit older they become a bit more sophisticated you know supposedly
259
so for example i didn't really used to like olives now i i love them
260
so i hope that i will start to appreciate mushrooms soon
261
soon because i love the smell as i say what's the weirdest food you've ever tried Cow tongue.
262
The flavour was nice but the texture was very tonguey.
263
I was very aware that I was eating a tongue.
264
Very chewy and firm.
265
Is that a deer?
266
That might be a deer.
267
What's your favourite drink?
268
So soft drink or tea and coffee obviously.
269
water boring answer i quite like coke zero but i can feel that
270
starting to change a bit i'm getting a bit sick of
271
it i didn't really used to ever drink it it's
272
when i went to argentina for some reason i just started
273
drinking loads of coke zero i'm not too sure why um
274
but i can i can feel myself growing out of
275
that a bit maybe i'll move on to something else
276
and alcoholic beer wine all types of wine just for different
277
occasions you know like with steak you need red wine on a day like this some rose
278
or some white wine would be nice maybe some of this
279
briseco yeah whiskey i love whiskey as well it's probably my go-to
280
if i was in a bar i'd get some whiskey
281
and cocktails because who doesn't like cocktails do you prefer tea or coffee
282
I like both to be honest with you I love coffee though
283
so I'm probably gonna have to go for that
284
but tea is a lot more comforting I've said this many times on my channel before
285
but if I'm out in a cafe I just won't order tea
286
because I know how easy it is for me to make it home unless I'm having some cake in
287
which case I will get tea
288
because you need you need tea with cake that's just essential
289
I don't make the rules would you try something strange if I gave it to you
290
hmm like what depends on the smell i think
291
if it smelled weird then probably not but
292
if it's not nice then maybe i'd give it a go
293
what's your ideal meal look at me speaking
294
with food in my mouth very ungentleman like let me have a strawberry
295
So I went to Don Julio in Argentina.
296
Yes, I know.
297
I know.
298
Very famous.
299
I'm amazing.
300
And that was probably the nicest meal I've ever had.
301
So loads of delicious sides and starters.
302
A perfectly cooked steak with chips and garlic and tomatoes.
303
Red wine and a chocolate dessert.
304
That was probably my...
305
I'd say that that is my ideal meal, to be honest with you.
306
do you like your job yeah of course i do i'm
307
extremely grateful i mean you know it's a tuesday i'm in the sun having a picnic
308
and filming don't get me wrong it's not all picnics in the sun
309
but right now it literally is a picnic in the sun
310
can get a bit stressful there's the constant fear the constant feeling
311
that i'm not doing enough it's just nagging feeling
312
that i should be doing more and that it's all gonna slip away soon
313
but apart from that i think
314
that just comes with being self-employed to be honest apart from
315
that yeah i love it i mean i get to help people
316
and i've met many people in the community now through one-to-one calls
317
and private lessons and community calls that i also have and i mean you guys are amazing honestly
318
interesting people from all around the world i'm extremely grateful for all of you so thank you
319
Best way to meet people in the UK
320
I'd say language exchanges are good
321
because not only will you get to practice your English
322
but you'll also meet people who are interested in your culture and your language and they're also quite easy to find
323
In cities, obviously, it's going to be easier to find I don't even really like Haribo I like the white ones,
324
the gummy ones.
325
And they feel very British as well.
326
That's why I bought them.
327
Anyway, in big cities, it's going to be very easy to find language exchanges.
328
But even in smaller ones, depending on the language, I don't think in Stoke you're going to be able to find an Uzbek language exchange, I'm afraid.
329
But in London, you can find pretty much anything, or in Manchester, in Bristol, those types of places.
330
Also, sports events, so playing football or badminton or paddle or something like that.
331
Run clubs, absolutely.
332
There's a good website called meetup.com.
333
That's a good way to find local events and stuff like that.
334
That's obviously a good way to meet people.
335
And I think this is underrated just becoming like a regular
336
in a cafe soon you'll start speaking to the barista maybe other regulars in there
337
so that's a good one if you work remotely or even
338
if you don't just like going for a morning coffee in the same place
339
or every weekend that type of thing do you have any tattoos no not yet
340
but i am going to get one soon and whenever i say
341
that to people they always say the same thing it's It's a very rational question.
342
Like, are you not going to regret getting a tattoo?
343
Make sure it's something that you won't regret having on your body for the rest of your life.
344
That's a very valid question.
345
However, it's impossible to know what you're going to regret in like 10, 20, 30 years time.
346
So I've come to the conclusion that as long as the remaining years of my life, as long as the majority of those years are spent with me not regretting the tattoo,
347
then I think it's a win
348
so let's say I'm around for 50 more years as long
349
as the majority of those years 26 of those years I
350
like the tattoo then I'm happy anyway thank you thank you
351
so much for watching I hope that you have enjoyed this rather unique video
352
if you have please make sure to like subscribe
353
and comment down below
354
and of course make sure to check out the free pdf for all of the vocabulary
355
that popped up on the screen the link is in the top comment
356
if you would like to see me explore this deer park I mean, there are deer right there.
357
Then I would recommend watching this video right here.
358
Okay?
359
Because this is a vlog of me exploring it.
360
And I also teach some English there as well.
361
Okay.
362
I post new videos every Friday.
363
So I'll see you again soon.
364
Cheers.
365
Goodbye.
