Track 38 Welcome to the Ipswich Arts Festival.
2
This recording will help you find your way around this year's festival, the 20th we've held here in Trafalgar Park.
3
If you look at your map, you will see the entrance to the festival is on Trafalgar Road.
4
Directly opposite the entrance, you'll see our beautiful fountain,
5
and to the left of this you'll find this year's Sculpture Garden in among the bushes and trees.
6
It's a lovely setting to stroll around
7
and admire the skill of the sculptors who have carved their artwork out of both wood and stone.
8
If you follow the path through the middle of the park, you'll reach the Catering Village where you can buy food and drinks.
9
Just past there is an area between the Catering Village and the toilets where you'll find a display of paintings, all done by local artists.
10
There's a wide range of wonderful paintings, from portraits to local landscapes.
11
This year, we have a special exhibition of work by amateur artists from our town.
12
If you then go back past the Catering Village, on the left is this year's Craft Market.
13
This is always a popular area of the festival, where you can admire the craftwork of our talented exhibitors.
14
As always, we have live bands playing throughout the festival.
15
There will be a range of music to suit all tastes, from classical to jazz and rock,
16
so please consult your programme to find out when your favourite musicians will be performing on stage.
17
The stage is just to the right of the entrance.
18
As well as live music, we also have a special section for literature lovers this year.
19
You'll be able to listen to a variety of authors reading from their latest works,
20
and it's wonderful to hear the writers bring their own words to life.
21
From the stage, go along the path towards the toilets at the bottom left of the map.
22
Carry on round, keeping the toilets on your left, and you will see the author area on your right.
23
In the very top left -hand corner of your map, you'll see another set of toilets, and the information booth nearby.
24
Right next to the information booth, you'll be able to enjoy our Theatre in the Park performances.
25
Our very talented and professional group of actors will be performing extracts from classical and modern plays.
26
These will take place each evening from 5 till 8, so don't miss out.

What You'll Learn

This video is a great tool for language learning, helping you build practical speaking skills like giving clear directions and describing locations. You’ll also practice organizing information logically, a key skill for effective communication. These abilities are perfect for real-world scenarios, from guiding someone around a festival to explaining how to find a place in a new city.

Listen For These Sounds

Pay attention to connected speech and reductions in the dialogue. For example, phrases like "you'll see" often link into "yuh'll see," with the "ou" sound in "you" reduced. Similarly, "just past there is" may flow as "jus' pas' there is," with the "t" in "just" and "past" softened. These subtle links are common in natural speech, and noticing them will improve your listening comprehension and help you sound more fluent in speaking practice.

Say It Like a Native

To mirror the speaker's rhythm and stress, focus on emphasizing key words like "directly opposite," "left," "right," and "special exhibition." The speaker uses a steady, conversational pace, pausing slightly after important details to help the listener follow. Try the shadowing technique: play a short clip, pause, and repeat it immediately, matching the stress and intonation. This helps train your mouth to form sounds naturally and builds muscle memory for fluent speech. For pronunciation practice, mimic the clear but relaxed tone—avoid rushing, and let your voice rise slightly when introducing new locations, like "the Sculpture Garden in among the bushes and trees."
