235
Don't worry about it.
236
You're learning.
237
Thanks.
238
Everyone has been really helpful.
239
You'll feel comfortable soon.
240
This is a good example of natural workplace conversation.
241
You don't always need to talk about work.
242
Small talk is important too.
243
Here are some easy questions you can ask a co-worker.
244
How's your day going?
245
How was your morning?
246
How are you finding the job? Do you live nearby?
247
What do you usually do for lunch?
248
You don't need complicated English.
249
Simple questions are enough.
250
Let's practice one.
251
Imagine you're sitting next to a new co-worker.
252
Ask, how's your day going?
253
Good.
254
Now ask, what do you usually do for lunch?
255
Very good.
256
Now let's make it a little more difficult.
257
Imagine your co-worker asks, what do you usually do on your lunch break?
258
How would you answer?
259
You could say, I usually eat here, or I usually go to a cafe, or I usually bring lunch from home.
260
Choose one answer and say it out loud.
261
Great job.
262
It's two o'clock.

This part?
273
Yes?
274

276
Now I understand.
277
Good.
278
Could you show me an example? Of course.
279
Look at this older document.
280
Oh, I see.
281
You can use this as a guide.
282
That's very helpful.
283
Thank you.
284
Leo used another excellent phrase.
285
I'm not sure what this means.
286
This is much better than pretending you understand.
287
If you don't understand something at work, ask.
288
You can say, I'm not sure what this means.
289
Could you explain that, please?
290
Could you show me an example?
291
Could you say that again?
292
These are simple, polite, and useful.
293
Now let's practice.
294
You see a word you don't understand, say, I'm not sure what this means.
295
Good.
296
Now ask for an example.
297
Could you show me an example?
298
Excellent.
299
Remember, asking a question is not a bad thing.
300
On your first day, you are expected to have questions.

Situation 3, you don't understand something in a document, what do you say?
316
I'm not sure what this means.
317

318
Situation 4, someone helps you with your computer, what do you say?
319
Thanks for your help.

Now let's practice a complete first day conversation.
323
This time, imagine you are the new employee.
