1
Hey guys, welcome back to our Business English channel.
2
Today I want to start off with a question.
3
Have you ever felt so busy that you needed an extra pair of hands?
4
Have you ever felt the need to clone yourself?
5
Well, maybe you need to delegate more.
6
In this series, let's look at some top tips to improve your delegation skills.
7
First, start small.
8
Hand over tasks that don't need to be and tasks that are not paramount to the completion of your project.
9
Can you make sure a copy of these gets sent to all the clients by the end of the week?
10
Thanks.
11
Could you just draw up those proposals, print them out, edit and double check them
12
and then just get them ready and have them sent out to all the clients by the end of next week?
13
This allows you the chance to get used to handing over these responsibilities
14
and at the same time allows your team members a chance to get used to taking on those tasks.
15
Next, we need to play to our team's strengths.
16
Hey Cara, can you work on our logo design please?
17
Yeah, that's fine, no problem.
18
Hey Cara, can you work on our logo design please?
19
Ehh, seriously?
20
This will not only ensure that your team members stay happy and motivated,
21
But handing over tasks to those who have the necessary skills will also give you peace of mind
22
that these tasks can be achieved within your time frame and to a high enough standard.
23
Let's stop right there guys!
24
Today we're looking at idioms.
25
An idiom is
26
when the figurative meaning of what you are trying to say is different to the literal meaning of the phrase
27
that you use.
28
For example, I have a lot on my plate.
29
I am not talking about a plate that has a lot of food on it.
30
I just mean recently I have had a lot of things to do.
31
I have been very, very busy.
32
I have had a lot on my plate.
33
Great, let's jump straight back.
34
The more you delegate, remember at the end you will end up with a more well-rounded team.
35
I want to leave you with another idiom today.
36
Many hands make life work.
37
your team members, delegate those tasks.
38
It will help you relieve stress and will free up some time
39
so that you can help better manage your team's specific needs.
