Il future continuous

Intermedio

Future continuous

Forma e uso

will be + -ing — un'azione in corso in un momento del futuro

1.Forma

Il future continuous = will be + verbo-ing, uguale per tutti i soggetti. Forme contratte: I'll be, she'll be; negativa won't be.

StrutturaEsempio
AffermativaS + will be + V-ingI'll be working.
NegativaS + won't be + V-ingShe won't be coming.
DomandaWill + S + be + V-ing?Will you be using the car?
Risposta breveYes, S will. / No, S won't.Yes, I will. / No, I won't.

Nella domanda solo will va prima del soggetto; be resta dopo: Will you be working? (non: Will be you working?).

2.Quando si usa

1. Un'azione in corso in un momento del futuro: this time tomorrow, at eight tonight, when you arrive…

  • This time tomorrow, I'll be sitting on a plane to Seoul.

  • Don't come at nine — the baby will be sleeping.

  • When you land, I'll be waiting at the arrivals gate.

Quando atterri, ti starò aspettando agli arrivi.

  • I'll be working all weekend, so I can't go out.

  • Lan will be travelling around Europe for the whole of July.

  • We'll be landing in Da Nang in about twenty minutes.

Atterreremo a Da Nang tra circa venti minuti.

  • I'll be seeing Huy at work tomorrow, so I can give him the book.

  • Will you be using your laptop this afternoon? Mine's broken.

Ti serve il portatile oggi pomeriggio? Il mio è rotto.

  • Will you be staying for dinner?

    Ti fermi a cena?

Will you be + -ing? chiede solo dei programmi, quindi suona gentile, senza mettere pressione. Will you + verbo? di solito è una richiesta o un invito. Confronta: Will you come to the party? (ti sto invitando) e Will you be coming to the party? (ti chiedo se hai intenzione di venire).

  • Don't call Mai now — she'll be driving home.

Non chiamare Mai adesso: starà tornando a casa in macchina.

3.Will be -ing o will + verbo?

Will be -ing = l'azione sarà in corso in quel momento (è cominciata prima e continua dopo).

  • When you get here, we'll be eating.

Quando arrivi, staremo mangiando. (avremo cominciato prima che tu arrivi)

  • When you get here, we'll eat.

Quando arrivi, mangiamo. (cominciamo quando arrivi)

  • I'm thirsty. — Wait, I'll get you some water.

Ho sete. — Aspetta, ti prendo un po' d'acqua. (un'offerta → will + verbo)

  • I verbi di stato (know, want, like, believe…) di solito non si usano in questa forma: I'll know the results tomorrow (non: will be knowing).
  • Dopo when, while, until, as soon as… si usa il presente anche quando si parla del futuro: When you arrive, I'll be waiting (non: will arrive).
