I'm speaking from North London
3
and one of the funny things about living in London is
4
the problems students often have in talking about the river that runs through London, the Thames.
5
Students often say things like the Thames.
6
Strangely though actually when we talk about the river we generally just refer to it as the water.
7
So for example for me I grew up south of the water but now I live in North London.
8
When I'm driving with my kids I might tell them as we go under a tunnel

10
When I'm pointing I might say yeah
11
if you look across the water over there you go on a bridge over the water

and in the same way you can use this to talk about rivers where you live.
