All / most / some / none of
most people vs most of the people, all of us, none of them — 집단의 얼마만큼인지
1.of를 쓸까, 안 쓸까?
all, most, some, any, many, much, a few, half, no / none
| 일반적 — of 없음 | 특정한 무리 — of + the/my… | |
|---|---|---|
| all | All children like games. | All (of) the children in my class like games. |
| most | Most people have a phone. | Most of the people I know have a phone. |
| some | Some shops open on Sundays. | Some of the shops on this street open on Sundays. |
| no / none | There are no easy answers. | None of my answers were right. |
“특정한 무리”란 명사 앞에 the, my, your, these, those, this, that, Lan's… 그럴 때는 of가 필요합니다: most of the people, some of my friends. 그런 말이 없으면 of를 빼세요: most people, some friends.
Most people in Vietnam ride motorbikes.
(일반적 → of 없음)
Most of the people at the party were students.
(특정한 무리 → most of the)
Some of my classmates live in the city centre.
I spent most of the weekend in bed.
“대부분의 사람”의 “의”에 이끌려 “most of people”이라고 말하기 쉽습니다. 요령: of 바로 뒤에는 the, my, these, them 같은 말이 있어야 합니다. 없으면 of를 빼고 most people로 쓰세요. 또 여기서는 most 앞에 the를 쓰지 않습니다: “the most of the students”는 틀렸습니다 — the most는 최상급입니다.
2.All과 half: of는 써도 되고 안 써도 됨
all과 half만은 the / my / this… 앞의 of를 생략할 수 있습니다: all my friends = all of my friends, half the cake = half of the cake. 하지만 그 앞에 the를 붙이면 안 됩니다: “the all students”나 “the half of the cake”가 아닙니다.
All (of) my friends live nearby.
We ate half (of) the cake before dinner.
All students must wear a uniform.
(일반적 → of 없음)
it, us, you, them 앞에는 all이나 half라도 항상 of가 필요합니다: all of us, half of it, none of them.
| + it (하나의 것, 셀 수 없는 것) | + us / you / them | |
|---|---|---|
| all of | all of it | all of us |
| most of | most of it | most of them |
| some of | some of it | some of you |
| none of | none of it | none of them |
The teacher gave all of us a sticker.
Do any of you speak Japanese?

We all went home. / They were all tired. / I invited them all.
무엇을 말하는지 분명하면 most, some, half, none, a few…는 명사 없이 혼자 쓸 수 있습니다(of them / of it을 붙여도 됨). 하지만 all은 보통 혼자 주어나 목적어로 쓰지 않습니다 — everyone / everything을 쓰세요(「All / every / each / whole」 레슨 참고).
A few shops were open, but most were closed.

Most of the money is gone(money는 셀 수 없음 → 단수), Most of the students are here(복수 → 복수). none of + 복수 명사일 때는 단수와 복수 모두 맞습니다(「No / none / any, nothing / nobody」 레슨 참고).
5.None of일까 not all일까?
“100%는 아님”을 말할 때는 not all (of)이나 not every-를 씁니다. “All of my friends didn't come” 같은 문장은 뜻이 애매하므로(아무도 안 온 건지, 일부만 안 온 건지) 피하는 것이 좋습니다.
None of my friends came.
Not all (of) my friends came. Some were busy.
