Lección 86 · Etapa 7: Sustantivos, artículos y determinantes
All / most / some / none of
IntermedioForma y uso
most people vs most of the people, all of us, none of them — qué parte de un grupo
1.¿Con of o sin of?
Palabras como all, most, some, any, many, much, a few, half, no / none van delante de un sustantivo para decir cuánto de algo.
| En general — sin of | Un grupo concreto — of + the/my… | |
|---|---|---|
| all | All children like games. | All (of) the children in my class like games. |
| most | Most people have a phone. | Most of the people I know have a phone. |
| some | Some shops open on Sundays. | Some of the shops on this street open on Sundays. |
| no / none | There are no easy answers. | None of my answers were right. |
“Un grupo concreto” quiere decir que delante del sustantivo hay the, my, your, these, those, this, that, Lan's…. Entonces necesitas of: most of the people, some of my friends. Sin esas palabras, quita of: most people, some friends.
Most people in Vietnam ride motorbikes.
Most of the people at the party were students.
(un grupo concreto → most of the)
Some of my classmates live in the city centre.
I spent most of the weekend in bed.
En español decimos “la mayoría de la gente”, por eso es fácil decir “most of people” o “the most of the people”. Truco: justo después de of tiene que haber una palabra como the, my, these o them. Si no la hay, quita of: most people. Y aquí no pongas the delante de most: “the most of the students” está mal, porque the most es el superlativo.
2.All y half: of es opcional
Solo con all y half puedes omitir of delante de the / my / this…: all my friends = all of my friends, half the cake = half of the cake. Pero no pongas the delante de ellos: no “the all students” ni “the half of the cake”.
All (of) my friends live nearby.
Todos mis amigos viven cerca. (con o sin of)
We ate half (of) the cake before dinner.
All students must wear a uniform.
Todos los estudiantes deben llevar uniforme. (en general → sin of)
3.Delante de pronombres: of es obligatorio
Delante de it, us, you, them siempre necesitas of, incluso con all y half: all of us, half of it, none of them.
| + it (una cosa, incontable) | + us / you / them | |
|---|---|---|
| all of | all of it | all of us |
| most of | most of it | most of them |
| some of | some of it | some of you |
| none of | none of it | none of them |
The teacher gave all of us a sticker.
Do any of you speak Japanese?
¿Alguno de ustedes habla japonés? (dicho a tres personas o más)
I liked the film, but I didn't understand all of it.
My cousins came, but none of them stayed for dinner.
All tiene otra estructura más: pon all justo después del pronombre, o después de be / un auxiliar: We all went home. / They were all tired. / I invited them all.
4.Solos, y concordancia del verbo
Cuando está claro de qué hablas, most, some, half, none, a few… pueden ir solos, sin sustantivo (o con of them / of it). Pero all no se suele usar solo como sujeto u objeto: usa everyone / everything (mira la lección “All / every / each / whole”).
A few shops were open, but most were closed.
I wanted some cake, but there was none left.
Quería pastel, pero no quedaba nada.
Some people love durian, and some hate it.
El verbo concuerda con el sustantivo que va después de of: Most of the money is gone (money es incontable → singular), Most of the students are here (plural → plural). Con none of + plural, el singular y el plural son correctos (mira la lección “No / none / any, nothing / nobody”).
5.¿None of o not all?
Para decir “cero”, usa none of. Para decir “no el 100 %”, usa not all (of) o not every-. Una frase como “All of my friends didn't come” es ambigua (¿no vino nadie o solo faltaron algunos?), así que es mejor evitarla.
None of my friends came.
Ninguno de mis amigos vino. (no vino nadie)
Not all (of) my friends came. Some were busy.
No vinieron todos mis amigos. Algunos estaban ocupados. (algunos sí vinieron)
Not everyone likes spicy food.
6.Errores comunes
