All / most / some / none of

all, most, some, any, many, much, a few, half, no / none gibi sözcükler, bir şeyin ne kadarını söylemek için ismin önüne gelir. Asıl soru şu: Şeylerden genel olarak mı, yoksa belirli bir grup hakkında mı konuşuyorsun?

“Belirli bir grup”, ismin önünde the, my, your, these, those, this, that, Lan's… olması demektir. O zaman of gerekir: most of the people, some of my friends. Bu sözcükler yoksa of'u at: most people, some friends.

• Most people in Vietnam ride motorbikes.

  Vietnam'da çoğu insan motosiklet kullanır. (genel → of yok)

• Most of the people at the party were students.

  Partideki insanların çoğu öğrenciydi. (belirli bir grup → most of the)

• Some of my classmates live in the city centre.

  Sınıf arkadaşlarımın bazıları şehir merkezinde oturuyor.

• I spent most of the weekend in bed.

  Hafta sonunun çoğunu yatakta geçirdim.

💡Öğrenciler sık sık “most of people” der. İpucu: of'tan hemen sonra the, my, these ya da them gibi bir sözcük olmalı. Yoksa of'u at: most people. Ayrıca burada most'tan önce the koyma: “the most of the students” yanlış — the most, en üstünlük yapısıdır.

Sadece all ve half ile the / my / this…'ten önce of'u atabilirsin: all my friends = all of my friends, half the cake = half of the cake. Ama önlerine the koyma: “the all students” ya da “the half of the cake” denmez.

• All (of) my friends live nearby.

  Bütün arkadaşlarım yakında oturuyor. (of ile ya da of olmadan)

• We ate half (of) the cake before dinner.

  Akşam yemeğinden önce pastanın yarısını yedik.

• All students must wear a uniform.

  Bütün öğrenciler üniforma giymek zorunda. (genel → of yok)

it, us, you, them'den önce her zaman of gerekir — all ve half ile bile: all of us, half of it, none of them.

• The teacher gave all of us a sticker.

  Öğretmen hepimize birer çıkartma verdi.

• Do any of you speak Japanese?

  Aranızda Japonca konuşan var mı? (üç ya da daha fazla kişiye)

• I liked the film, but I didn't understand all of it.

  Filmi beğendim ama hepsini anlamadım.

• My cousins came, but none of them stayed for dinner.

  Kuzenlerim geldi ama hiçbiri akşam yemeğine kalmadı.

All'un bir yapısı daha var: all'u zamirin hemen arkasına ya da be / yardımcı fiilden sonra koy: We all went home. / They were all tired. / I invited them all.

Ne kastedildiği açıksa most, some, half, none, a few… isim olmadan tek başına (ya da of them / of it ile) kullanılabilir. Ama all genellikle tek başına özne ya da nesne olarak kullanılmaz — everyone / everything kullan (“All / every / each / whole” dersine bak).

• A few shops were open, but most were closed.

  Birkaç dükkân açıktı ama çoğu kapalıydı.

• I wanted some cake, but there was none left.

  Biraz pasta istedim ama hiç kalmamıştı.

• Some people love durian, and some hate it.

  Bazı insanlar durianı çok sever, bazıları da ondan nefret eder.

Fiil, of'tan sonraki isme uyar: Most of the money is gone (money sayılamaz → tekil), Most of the students are here (çoğul → çoğul). none of + çoğul ile tekil de çoğul da doğrudur (“No / none / any, nothing / nobody” dersine bak).

“Sıfır” demek için none of kullan. “%100 değil” demek için not all (of) ya da not every- kullan. “All of my friends didn't come” gibi bir cümle belirsizdir (hiç kimse mi gelmedi, yoksa sadece bazıları mı gelmedi?), bu yüzden ondan kaçınmak en iyisi.

• None of my friends came.

  Arkadaşlarımın hiçbiri gelmedi. (kimse gelmedi)

• Not all (of) my friends came. Some were busy.

  Arkadaşlarımın hepsi gelmedi; bazılarının işi vardı. (bazıları geldi)

• Not everyone likes spicy food.

  Herkes acılı yemek sevmez.

  “Çoğunluk” anlamındaki most'tan önce the gelmez.

  of kullanırsan arkasından the / my gibi bir sözcük gelmeli.

  money sayılamaz → tekil fiil.
