Both / either / neither
both … and, either … or, neither … nor, both/either/neither of — 두 가지를 함께 말하기
|---|---|---|
| both … and | 둘 다 함께 | Both Lan and Minh are coming. |
| either … or | 둘 중 하나 | We can either walk or take a taxi. |
| neither … nor | 둘 다 아님 | Neither Lan nor Minh eats meat. |
She's both clever and hard-working.
You can pay either in cash or by card.

Either you tell her, or I will.
정해진 짝으로 외우세요: both – and, either – or, neither – nor. “both … or”나 “neither … or”처럼 섞어 쓰지 마세요.
I play both the guitar and the piano.
You can either call or text me.
We neither saw nor heard anything strange.
(She either lives in Hue or in Da Nang). She lives either in Hue or in Da Nang.
- both … and → 항상 복수(두 사람이나 두 가지): Both my phone and my laptop are broken.
Neither the bus nor the train was on time. / Either my parents or my sister is coming.
Neither Tuan nor his wife can drive(can't가 아님).
Neither Lan nor Minh is here.
4.명사, of와 함께 쓰는 both / either / neither
| + 명사 | + of the / my / these… | + of us / you / them | |
|---|---|---|---|
| both | both shirts (복수) | both (of) the shirts | both of them |
| either | either shirt (단수) | either of the shirts | either of them |
| neither | neither shirt (단수) | neither of the shirts | neither of them |
- both: the / my 앞에서는 of를 써도 되고 안 써도 되지만(both (of) my parents), 대명사 앞에서는 필요합니다(both of us). “the both”라고 하지 않습니다.
- either / neither + 단수 명사: either day, neither answer.
Neither of them is / are at home.
Tea or coffee? — Either. / Both, please. / Neither, thanks.

I don't like either of them = I like neither of them. I don't eat either meat or fish = I eat neither meat nor fish. (Neither do I / Me neither)은 「“So do I” / “I think so”」 레슨에서 다룹니다.
I don't like either of these shirts.
I like neither of these shirts.
|---|---|---|
| 모두 | both | all |
| 아무거나 하나 | either | any |
| 하나도 아님 | neither | none |
