both … and, either … or, neither … nor, both/either/neither of — दो चीज़ों की एक साथ बात
1.तीन जोड़े
ये तीन जोड़े एक ही तरह के दो विचारों को जोड़ते हैं — दो संज्ञाएँ, दो विशेषण, दो क्रियाएँ या दो वाक्यांश — और साफ़ करते हैं कि आपका मतलब दोनों से है, दोनों में से एक से है, या दोनों में से कोई नहीं से।

इन्हें तय जोड़ों के रूप में याद करें: both – and, either – or, neither – nor। इन्हें “both … or” या “neither … or” की तरह न मिलाएँ। (“Neither … or” कभी-कभी अनौपचारिक बोलचाल में सुनाई देता है, लेकिन लिखने और परीक्षाओं में इसे गलत माना जाता है।)
2.दोनों हिस्सों को संतुलित रखें
both / either / neither को पहले हिस्से के ठीक पहले रखें, और दोनों हिस्से एक ही तरह के शब्द हों: संज्ञा के साथ संज्ञा, विशेषण के साथ विशेषण, क्रिया के साथ क्रिया।
I play both the guitar and the piano.
मैं गिटार भी बजाता हूँ और पियानो भी। (संज्ञा + संज्ञा)
You can either call or text me.
आप मुझे कॉल कर सकते हैं या मैसेज भेज सकते हैं। (क्रिया + क्रिया)
We neither saw nor heard anything strange.
हमने न कुछ अजीब देखा, न सुना। (क्रिया + क्रिया)
बोलचाल में either की जगह अक्सर उतनी सख़्त नहीं होती (She either lives in Hue or in Da Nang)। लिखने और परीक्षाओं में दोनों हिस्सों को संतुलित रखें: She lives either in Hue or in Da Nang।
3.क्रिया का कौन-सा रूप?
- both … and → हमेशा बहुवचन (दो लोग या चीज़ें): Both my phone and my laptop are broken.
- either … or / neither … nor → क्रिया उस संज्ञा के अनुसार चलती है जो उसके सबसे पास हो: Neither the bus nor the train was on time. / Either my parents or my sister is coming.
- neither … nor पहले से ही नकारात्मक है → क्रिया सकारात्मक रखें: Neither Tuan nor his wife can drive (can't नहीं)।
neither … nor के बाद दो एकवचन संज्ञाएँ हों, तो कई native speakers बोलचाल में बहुवचन क्रिया लगाते हैं (Neither Lan nor Minh are…)। मानक लेखन और परीक्षाओं में एकवचन का प्रयोग करें: Neither Lan nor Minh is here।
4.संज्ञा के साथ और of के साथ both / either / neither
दो लोगों या चीज़ों की बात करते समय ये तीन शब्द संज्ञा से पहले, या of के साथ भी आ सकते हैं।

- both: the / my से पहले of लगाना ज़रूरी नहीं (both (of) my parents), लेकिन सर्वनाम से पहले ज़रूरी है (both of us)। “the both” न कहें।
- either / neither + एकवचन संज्ञा: either day, neither answer।
- neither of / either of + बहुवचन: एकवचन क्रिया (ज़्यादा औपचारिक) या बहुवचन क्रिया (बोलचाल) — दोनों ठीक हैं: Neither of them is / are at home।
- अकेले उत्तर के रूप में: Tea or coffee? — Either. / Both, please. / Neither, thanks.
Both of us were tired after the trip.
सफ़र के बाद हम दोनों थक गए थे।
I asked two people for directions, but neither of them knew.
मैंने दो लोगों से रास्ता पूछा, लेकिन उनमें से कोई भी नहीं जानता था।
Can either of you help me on Saturday?

5.नकारात्मक के बाद either; दो चीज़ें या ज़्यादा
जब क्रिया पहले से नकारात्मक हो, तो neither नहीं, either का प्रयोग करें: I don't like either of them = I like neither of them। इसी तरह: I don't eat either meat or fish = I eat neither meat nor fish। “मैं भी नहीं” वाला जवाब (Neither do I / Me neither) पाठ “So do I” / “I think so” में है।
I don't like either of these shirts.
मुझे इन दोनों में से कोई भी शर्ट पसंद नहीं है। (don't … neither नहीं)
I like neither of these shirts.
मुझे इन दोनों में से कोई भी शर्ट पसंद नहीं है। (अर्थ वही, ज़्यादा औपचारिक लगता है)

6.आम गलतियाँ
Both my father or my mother work at the hospital.Both my father and my mother work at the hospital.
both के साथ and आता है।
The film was neither funny or exciting.The film was neither funny nor exciting.
neither के साथ nor आता है।
I don't like neither of them.I don't like either of them. / I like neither of them.
सिर्फ़ एक नकारात्मक शब्द।
Neither Tuan nor his wife can't drive.Neither Tuan nor his wife can drive.
neither पहले से नकारात्मक है → सकारात्मक क्रिया।
Both of them was late.Both of them were late.
both → बहुवचन क्रिया।
The both restaurants are good.Both restaurants / Both the restaurants are good.
both से पहले the न लगाएँ।
