Lektion 87 · Etappe 7: Nomen, Artikel & Begleiter
Both / either / neither
MittelstufeForm & Gebrauch
both … and, either … or, neither … nor, both/either/neither of — über zwei Dinge sprechen
1.Drei Paare
| Paar | Bedeutung | Beispiel |
|---|---|---|
| both … and | beide zusammen (sowohl … als auch) | Both Lan and Minh are coming. |
We can either walk or take a taxi. |
She's both clever and hard-working.
Sie ist sowohl klug als auch fleißig.
You can pay either in cash or by card.
The room was neither clean nor quiet.
Das Zimmer war weder sauber noch ruhig.
Either you tell her, or I will.
Lern sie als feste Paare: both – and, either – or, neither – nor.
I play both the guitar and the piano.
Ich spiele sowohl Gitarre als auch Klavier. (Nomen + Nomen)
You can either call or text me.
Du kannst mich entweder anrufen oder mir schreiben. (Verb + Verb)
We neither saw nor heard anything strange.
(Verb + Verb)
Gesprochen ist die Stellung von either oft lockerer (She either lives in Hue or in Da Nang). In Texten und Prüfungen hältst du beide Teile im Gleichgewicht: She lives either in Hue or in Da Nang.
3.Welche Verbform?
- both … and → immer Plural (zwei Personen oder Dinge): Both my phone and my laptop are broken.
- either … or / neither … nor → das Verb richtet sich nach dem Nomen, das ihm am nächsten steht: Neither the bus nor the train was on time. / Either my parents or my sister is coming.
- neither … nor ist schon verneint → das Verb bleibt bejaht: Neither Tuan nor his wife can drive (nicht can't).
| + Nomen | + of the / my / these… | + of us / you / them | |
|---|---|---|---|
| both | both shirts (Plural) | both (of) the shirts | both of them |
| either | either shirt (Singular) | either of the shirts | either of them |
| neither | neither shirt (Singular) | neither of the shirts | neither of them |
- both: of ist vor the / my freiwillig (both (of) my parents), vor einem Pronomen aber nötig (both of us). Sag nicht „the both“.
- either / neither + Nomen im Singular: either day, neither answer.
- neither of / either of + Plural: Verb im Singular (formeller) oder im Plural (gesprochen) — beides geht: Neither of them is / are at home.
- Allein als Antwort: Tea or coffee? — Either. / Both, please. / Neither, thanks.
Both of us were tired after the trip.
Wir waren beide nach der Reise müde.
I asked two people for directions, but neither of them knew.
Can either of you help me on Saturday?
We can meet on either day. I'm free on both.
I don't like either of them = I like neither of them. Genauso: I don't eat either meat or fish = I eat neither meat nor fish. Die Antwort „ich auch nicht“ (Neither do I / Me neither) findest du in der Lektion „So do I“ / „I think so“.
I don't like either of these shirts.
Ich mag keins von diesen beiden Hemden. (nicht: don't … neither)
I like neither of these shirts.
Ich mag keins von diesen beiden Hemden. (gleiche Bedeutung, klingt formeller)
| Zwei Dinge | Drei oder mehr | |
|---|---|---|
| alle davon | both | all |
| eins, egal welches | either | any |
| keins | neither | none |
