1
I was asked how do I manage stress from economic shocks, geopolitical shocks, all the things that's going on.
2
I'll pass another one to you which is
3
which I think is the best advice maybe if I was say the best principle as the serenity prayer.
4
God give me the serenity to accept that which I can't control
5
and give me the power to control that which I can and the wisdom to tell the difference.
6
And so I view this almost like a game.
7
These things are happening.
8
There's a lot of joyous things that are also going on in many, many ways.
9
Right.
10
And so it's really up to me to navigate them.
11
OK, I can go where I want.
12
I could do what I want.
13
I have a lot of choices.
14
I have a lot of blessings that exist with me, I then decide, you know, what can I control that's really important to me?
15
And what I can't control is I can't control it.
16
I can't live forever.
17
I'm not going to get stressed out about that.
18
But at the other hand, I can control those things.
19
And so if I have that equanimity that allows me the ability to approach it that way so I don't get hijacked,
20
then that's an advantage.
21
And what I'm saying is also logical, right?
22
I'm not saying take some approach that's not logical.
23
It's real that this is the way it is.
24
Look around you.
25
You've got wonderful things.
26
There are things that you aspire to.
27
Don't get just so attached to things.
28
You're going to be fine if you navigate your life well.

About This Lesson

You're practicing English with "Master What You Can Control" using the Shadowing technique — a method originally developed for professional interpreter training.

Focus on sounding like the speaker — not just repeating words. With 15–30 minutes of daily practice, you'll build real-world speaking confidence.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
