I was in a band, I grew up outside of Detroit, Michigan, and I was in a band called North Star.

I'm sure you have all the albums.

And the singer in North Star, Kevin Sherenzia, had a Gran Torino wagon.

Joined the band, and it was pretty cool hanging out with older dudes that were playing rock music.

I was a drummer, I was pretty good, I was kind of a hack pretty much the same.

They wanted to play Rush songs and the record,

the 8th track that was the soundtrack to my sophomore year in high school was 2112 in 1976.

I would take the bus to school

and I would get in Kevin Cerenzi's Gran Torino with the other guys in the band

and it would be freezing cold in Detroit

and the windows would be down and we would smoke a lot of weed

and listen to 2112 over and over and over.

And I never really ever made it out of the parking lot into school.

Then I went to see them when a live album came out.

They played the first concert that opened Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

Back then you looked at record covers and white carpeting on the stage

and Neil's drum set and I set my drum set up exactly like his, I tried to.

I had little roto toms and splash cymbals and the cowbells.

I would play in my basement in Detroit, put on the headphones and play to that record.

And it changed my life.
