Ders 53 · Aşama 4: Zamanlar ve kipler
“Was going to”
OrtaKalıp ve kullanım
was/were going to + fiil — geçmişteki bir plan, çoğu zaman gerçekleşmemiş
1.Yapı
Was / were going to + fiilin yalın hâli, going to'nun geçmişe taşınmış hâlidir: o zaman yapmayı planladığın ya da olması beklenen bir şey.
| I / he / she / it | you / we / they | |
|---|---|---|
| Olumlu | I was going to call. | We were going to call. |
| Olumsuz | She wasn't going to say anything. | They weren't going to come. |
| Soru | Was he going to stay? | Were you going to tell me? |
| Kısa cevap | Yes, he was. / No, he wasn't. | Yes, we were. / No, they weren't. |
Hızlı konuşmada going to çoğu zaman gonna gibi duyulur: I was gonna call you. Bunu duyunca tanımak iyidir, ama yazarken (sınavlarda, iş e-postalarında) going to'yu tam yaz.
2.Ne zaman kullanılır
1. Gerçekleşmeyen geçmişteki bir plan — çoğu zaman arkasından but gelir
I was going to cook tonight, but I got home too late.
Bu akşam yemek yapacaktım ama eve çok geç geldim.
We were going to have a picnic, but it poured all afternoon.
Piknik yapacaktık ama bütün öğleden sonra sağanak yağdı.
I wasn't going to buy anything, but the shoes were on sale.
Hiçbir şey almayacaktım ama ayakkabılar indirimdeydi.
2. Geçmişte yapılmış bir tahmin — o zaman olacağı kesin görünüyordu (sonradan olmuş da olabilir, olmamış da)
Everyone knew the final was going to be close.
Finalin çekişmeli geçeceğini herkes biliyordu.
I thought the meeting was going to finish early, but it went on until seven.
Toplantının erken biteceğini sanmıştım ama yediye kadar sürdü.
3. Tam bir şey yapmak üzereyken sözünün kesilmesi — çoğu zaman just ile
I was just going to text you when you called!
Ben de tam sana mesaj atacaktım, sen aradın!
Sorry, what were you going to say?
Pardon, ne diyecektin?
Sık yapılan bir hata: “I am going to call you, but I forgot.” Plan geçmişe aitse (but I forgot), going to da geçmişe taşınır: I was going to call you, but I forgot. Türkçedeki “-acaktım” tam olarak bu anlamı verir.
3.Benzer yapılarla karşılaştırma
| Cümle | Anlamı |
|---|---|
| I'm going to call her. | şimdiki bir plan, gelecek için |
| I was going to call her. | onu daha önce aramayı planlamıştım (genellikle aramadım) |
| I called her. | onu gerçekten aradım |
| I was calling her when… | … olduğunda tam onu arıyordum |
| I would have called her, but… | bir şey engel olmasaydı onu arardım |
| She said she would call. | geçmişten bakılan bir söz ya da tahmin |
Was going to var olan bir plan ya da niyeti vurgular; said / promised'dan sonra gelen would ise bir söz ya da tahmini vurgular. Çoğu zaman ikisi de olur: He said he was going to fix it. / He said he would fix it.
4.Sık yapılan hatalar
I was go to call you, but I forgot.I was going to call you, but I forgot.
Tam biçim: was going to + fiil.
We are going to visit Hue last summer, but the flights were too expensive. We were going to visit Hue last summer, but the flights were too expensive.
Geçmişteki bir plan → are değil, were.
She was going to studied abroad. She was going to study abroad.
going to'dan sonra fiilin yalın hâli gelir.
I was going to finishing my essay, but I fell asleep.I was going to finish my essay, but I fell asleep.
Burada to'dan sonra -ing gelmez.
My friends was going to come.My friends were going to come.
Çoğul özne → were.
