The deep gratitude of generations of Vietnamese people towards those who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence and freedom,

especially as thousands gathered to pay their respects to matters whose remains have been recovered from Lê Thị Rương Park.

There were veterans, residents and young volunteers came with white flowers and incense, very simple yet moving gestures.

War veteran Hoang Minh Chương, who once fought in the battlefields of Binh Long, Phước Long, Tây Ninh, Bèn Cát and Dong Xoai,

returned to Ho Chi Minh City with former comrades for the memorial

and burial ceremony of the fallen soldiers whose remains were recovered from Lei Thi Diang Park.

They came hoping to pay their final respect to those who may once have fought alongside

them see so many people come to pay respect it deeply moving we were fortunate to return home

while many of us combat never did I'm grateful to have survived the war

and to be here today to see our fallen comrades finally laid to rest.

The tribute also brought together younger generations.

Ho Khak Vĩ and his friends arrived early to hand out white flowers to mourners.

We came early to give flowers to those who hadn't brought any, so everyone could pay great respect to the fallen soldiers.

For many people attending the ceremony,

those simple gestures of remembrance also reflect a shared gratitude for the sacrifices that made peace possible.

They sacrificed their lives so we could have the peace we enjoy today.

Nearly six decades after their sacrifice, the soldiers have been laid to rest.

Though many remain unidentified, their sacrifice continues to be remembered.
