Lección 114 · Etapa 10: Estructuras avanzadas
Modal + have + V3
AvanzadoModal perfect
Forma y uso
must / might / should + have + V3 — suponer o juzgar un hecho pasado
1.Forma
Modal + have + participio se usa para hacer suposiciones o juzgar algo que ya pasó. have nunca cambia: nunca es has ni had, sea cual sea el sujeto.
| Forma | Ejemplo | |
|---|---|---|
| Afirmativa | modal + have + V3 | She must have left. |
| Negativa | modal + not + have + V3 | He can't have seen it. |
| Pregunta | modal + sujeto + have + V3? | Could they have taken the wrong road? |
| Pasiva | modal + have been + V3 | The letter might have been lost. |
| Continua | modal + have been + V-ing | He must have been sleeping. |
Al hablar, have casi desaparece: must've /ˈmʌstəv/, should've, could've, might've; suena como “must of”.
|---|---|---|
| casi seguro de que pasó | must have + V3 | The lights are off. They must have gone to bed. |
| posible, no seguro | might / may / could have + V3 | He might have missed the bus. |
| posiblemente no | might not / may not have + V3 | She may not have heard you. |
| casi seguro de que no pasó | can't / couldn't have + V3 | You can't have finished already! |
Nobody's answering. They must have gone out.
No contesta nadie. Deben de haber salido.
I may have left my wallet in the taxi.
Minh can't have written this — he doesn't speak French.
She couldn't have known about the party. We kept it secret.
La negativa de must have (al hacer suposiciones) suele ser can't have / couldn't have. El inglés americano también usa a menudo must not have + V3 para “estoy seguro de que no pasó” (He must not have seen me), pero la forma corta mustn't have es rara.
Mira la lección “Deducción: must / can't”.
| Ahora | Pasado | |
|---|---|---|
| seguro | She must be at home. | She must have been at home. |
| imposible | That can't be true. | That can't have been true. |
| posible | He might be busy. | He might have been busy. |
| una buena idea | You should rest. | You should have rested. |
4.Should have: lo que habría sido correcto
should have + V3 = era lo correcto (pero no se hizo); shouldn't have + V3 = estuvo mal (pero se hizo). Se usa para expresar arrepentimiento o crítica. ought to have significa lo mismo, pero es menos común. should have también puede significar “a estas alturas, según lo previsto, …”.
We should have booked a table — the place is full.
Deberíamos haber reservado mesa: está lleno.
You shouldn't have said that to her.
No deberías haberle dicho eso.
You ought to have asked before borrowing my bike.
The parcel should have arrived by now.
El paquete ya debería haber llegado. (según lo previsto)
5.Could have, would have, needn't have
- could have + V3: era posible, pero no pasó; también sirve para un reproche suave (You could have told me!).
- couldn't have + comparativo: it couldn't have been better / worse (no podría haber sido mejor / peor).
- would have + V3: estabas dispuesto a hacerlo, pero algo te lo impidió.

You could have told me the meeting was cancelled!

No podríamos haber pedido mejor tiempo.
I would have called you, but my phone died.

(ya has cocinado)
I didn't need to cook — we ate out.
No tuve que cocinar: comimos fuera. (así que no cociné)
