Kiplik + have + V3

Modal fiil + have + V3, zaten olmuş bir şey hakkında tahmin yürütmek ya da yargıda bulunmak için kullanılır. have asla değişmez — özne ne olursa olsun has ya da had olmaz.

💡Konuşmada have neredeyse kaybolur: must've /ˈmʌstəv/, should've, could've, might've — “must of” gibi duyulur. Yazarken her zaman have yaz ve have'den sonra Simple Past (went, saw) değil, V3 (gone, seen) kullan.

Modal fiili ne kadar emin olduğuna göre seç:

• Nobody's answering. They must have gone out.

  Kimse açmıyor. Dışarı çıkmış olmalılar.

• I may have left my wallet in the taxi.

  Cüzdanımı takside unutmuş olabilirim.

• Minh can't have written this — he doesn't speak French.

  Bunu Minh yazmış olamaz — Fransızca bilmiyor.

• She couldn't have known about the party. We kept it secret.

  Partiden haberi olmuş olamaz. Gizli tutmuştuk.

Tahmin anlamındaki must have'in olumsuzu genellikle can't have / couldn't have'dir. Amerikan İngilizcesinde “olmadığından eminim” için must not have + V3 de sık kullanılır (He must not have seen me), ama kısa biçim mustn't have nadirdir. Dikkat: couldn't have (imkânsız), might not have'den (belki olmadı) çok daha güçlüdür.

Aynı modal fiil: + fiilin yalın hâli şimdi hakkındadır, + have V3 geçmiş hakkındadır. “Çıkarım: must / can't” dersine bak.

should have + V3 = yapılması doğru olan buydu (ama olmadı); shouldn't have + V3 = yanlıştı (ama oldu). Pişmanlık ya da eleştiri için kullanılır. ought to have aynı anlama gelir ama daha az yaygındır. should have ayrıca “beklendiği gibi, şimdiye kadar …” anlamına da gelebilir.

• We should have booked a table — the place is full.

  Masa ayırtmalıydık — mekân dolu.

• You shouldn't have said that to her.

  Ona bunu söylememeliydin.

• You ought to have asked before borrowing my bike.

  Bisikletimi almadan önce sormalıydın.

• The parcel should have arrived by now.

  Kargonun şimdiye kadar gelmiş olması gerekirdi. (beklendiği gibi)

• could have + V3: mümkündü ama olmadı; hafif bir sitem de olabilir (You could have told me!).
• couldn't have + karşılaştırma derecesi: daha iyi / daha kötü olamazdı.
• would have + V3: yapmaya istekliydin ya da hazırdın ama bir şey engel oldu.
• needn't have + V3 (çoğunlukla İngiliz İngilizcesi): yaptın ama gerek yoktu. didn't need to + fiil ile karşılaştır: gerek yoktu, bu yüzden (genellikle) yapmadın.

• I could have gone to university, but I chose to work.

  Üniversiteye gidebilirdim ama çalışmayı seçtim.

• You could have told me the meeting was cancelled!

  Toplantının iptal edildiğini bana söyleyebilirdin! (hafif bir sitem)

• We couldn't have asked for better weather.

  Bundan daha güzel bir hava isteyemezdik.

• I would have called you, but my phone died.

  have + V3 gelir, Simple Past değil.

• ✗I should of told you earlier.

  should've “should of” gibi duyulur ama have yazılır.

• ✗He can't have saw the message.

  ✓He can't have seen the message.

  can't have + V3.

• ✗She should have been arrived by now.

  ✓She should have arrived by now.

  arrive burada etken — been gerekmez.

• ✗I must have left my keys at home, but I'm not sure.

  ✓I might have left my keys at home, but I'm not sure.
