Lição 114 · Etapa 10: Estruturas avançadas
Modal + have + V3
AvançadoModal perfect
Forma e uso
must / might / should + have + V3 — supor ou julgar algo do passado
1.Forma
Modal + have + particípio passado serve para fazer suposições sobre algo que já aconteceu ou para julgá-lo. have nunca muda — nunca vira has nem had, qualquer que seja o sujeito.
| Forma | Exemplo | |
|---|---|---|
| Afirmativa | modal + have + V3 | She must have left. |
| Negativa | modal + not + have + V3 | He can't have seen it. |
| Pergunta | modal + sujeito + have + V3? | Could they have taken the wrong road? |
| Voz passiva | modal + have been + V3 | The letter might have been lost. |
| Forma contínua | modal + have been + V-ing | He must have been sleeping. |
Na fala, o have quase desaparece: must've /ˈmʌstəv/, should've, could've, might've — soa como “must of”.
|---|---|---|
| quase certeza de que aconteceu | must have + V3 | The lights are off. They must have gone to bed. |
| possível, sem certeza | might / may / could have + V3 | He might have missed the bus. |
| talvez não | might not / may not have + V3 | She may not have heard you. |
| quase certeza de que não aconteceu | can't / couldn't have + V3 | You can't have finished already! |
Nobody's answering. They must have gone out.
Ninguém atende. Eles devem ter saído.
I may have left my wallet in the taxi.
Posso ter esquecido a carteira no táxi.
Minh can't have written this — he doesn't speak French.
She couldn't have known about the party. We kept it secret.
Ela não tinha como saber da festa. Nós guardamos segredo.
A negativa de must have (quando é suposição) geralmente é can't have / couldn't have. O inglês americano também usa bastante must not have + V3 para “tenho certeza de que não aconteceu” (He must not have seen me), mas a forma curta mustn't have é rara. Repare que couldn't have (impossível) é bem mais forte que might not have (talvez não).
3.Agora ou no passado?
O mesmo modal: + forma base fala do agora, + have V3 fala do passado. Veja a lição “Dedução: must / can't”.
| Agora | Passado | |
|---|---|---|
| certeza | She must be at home. | She must have been at home. |
| impossível | That can't be true. | That can't have been true. |
| possível | He might be busy. | He might have been busy. |
| uma boa ideia | You should rest. | You should have rested. |
4.Should have: o que teria sido o certo
should have + V3 = era a coisa certa a fazer (mas não aconteceu); shouldn't have + V3 = foi errado (mas aconteceu). Usamos para arrependimento ou crítica. ought to have significa o mesmo, mas é menos comum. should have também pode significar “já deveria, como era de esperar, …”.
We should have booked a table — the place is full.
You shouldn't have said that to her.
You ought to have asked before borrowing my bike.
The parcel should have arrived by now.
A encomenda já deveria ter chegado. (como era de esperar)
5.Could have, would have, needn't have
- could have + V3: era possível, mas não aconteceu; também serve para uma reclamação leve (You could have told me!).
I could have gone to university, but I chose to work.
You could have told me the meeting was cancelled!
We couldn't have asked for better weather.
Não podíamos ter pedido um tempo melhor.
I would have called you, but my phone died.
Eu teria te ligado, mas a bateria do meu celular acabou.
You needn't have cooked so much — there are only four of us.
I didn't need to cook — we ate out.
Não precisei cozinhar — comemos fora. (então não cozinhei)
6.Erros comuns
