Hello everyone!
2
Welcome to a new episode of Bo's Slow English.
3
In today's episode, I'm going to help you prepare for your next job interview.
4
I have created a video like this in the past, but I did not have a lot of subscribers back then,
5
so I don't think many people saw that video, but I have a new format this time.
6
So for today's video, I would like to share my experience as someone who has done or performed interviews for potential candidates.
7
When I say candidates, I mean the applicants or the possible new employees.
8
After I share some tips and tricks on how to do really well in an interview, we will do an I speak,
9
you speak, where I will ask some basic interview questions and I will prompt you with the response.
10
I hope you feel much more confident after this video
11
and please share this with your friends who may be learning English
12
or maybe they need some help with their next job interview.
13
Before we get started,
14
please click like and subscribe and if you are interested in having a one -on -one conversation with me,
15
fill out the form in the description below.
16
I will email you a price list for 30 -minute and one -hour sessions.
17
My private lessons are 100 % speaking lessons,
18
no textbook required, and I tailor the lessons based on your needs and your level.
19
I have interviewed many, many people.
20
I used to be a manager at a company.
21
I have had to interview medical providers such as nurses and physician's assistants and nurse practitioners.
22
I'm not sure what the last two are called in other countries, the physician's assistants and nurse practitioners,
23
but they are basically one level down from a doctor.
24
I've also interviewed receptionists, medical assistants, support staff.
25
During interviews, you will probably get asked some of the core basic interview questions,
26
such as, what are your goals?
27
Why are you choosing to work with us?
28
Why do you want this job?
29
And I know that this can be nerve -wracking because you don't know exactly what questions they will ask,
30
so you have to be put on the spot.
31
To be put on the spot means that you're required to say something or answer questions without it being rehearsed.
32
Try to go into interviews with a calm body and mindset because if you're shaking from nervousness or anxiety,
33
that will not help the situation.
34
Some interviewers are tougher than others.
35
Several months ago, I was being interviewed by this big -time doctor.
36
He was asking me some very detailed questions about my experience or what would I do in a certain situation,
37
and I had to maintain calmness.
38
It's a little bit of a psychological mind game because they want to see if you will crack under pressure.
39
Crack under pressure means if you are put in a stressful situation, will you look stressed out?
40
So when this doctor was asking me these questions, I was a little stressed on the inside,
41
but outwardly I did not show that.
42
I came in with a lot of confidence
43
because I was getting the sense that he did not really care for all the details in my responses.
44
He cared about the gist of my answers and also my emotional reaction.
45
When I say gist, I mean the overall context.
46
I remember leaving this interview thinking, I should have said blah, blah, blah.
47
Or why didn't I mention blah, blah, blah.
48
And then I sat with my emotions and thoughts and I realized he doesn't actually care about the specific instances is.
49
He just wants to see my reaction.
50
So my first tip for you is come with confidence.
51
Don't show that you are stressed.
52
A lot of people will try to prepare for an interview.
53
They might Google or research or ask chat GPT, what kind of interview questions should I expect?
54
You cannot predict the future.
55
If you are an expert at what you do, then the answers will come to you as long as you remain calm.
56
One of the interview questions that this doctor asked me was,
57
how do I rectify a situation when a client is really upset?
58
Rectify means to make better or to correct a problem.
59
I talked about the many, many years of working in customer service
60
and how the number one most important thing is to make sure that the client feels heard.
61
If they have a complaint about something, I let them voice their thoughts and their complaints,
62
and then I will try to calmly find a solution that benefits not only the client but also the business.
63
Sometimes during an interview, the interviewer might ask you a bit about your personal life.
64
They shouldn't judge you
65
or not hire you based on what you choose to do off the clock or when you're not working,
66
but they may want to get to know you on a different level.
67
So be prepared for them to ask you some personal questions.
68
Some questions that I have asked
69
and I have been asked are what are your hobbies outside of work
70
or what do you like to do outside of work?
71
Obviously, you are going to want to respond with activities that are appropriate and professional.
72
So I wouldn't say, oh, I go clubbing every night and I party all the time.
73
That's not something I do anyway, but an answer like that would not make you look good.
74
They may draw some concerns that if you call out sick or decide not to show up to work one day,
75
then they will always remember is it because she went clubbing or because she was partying?
76
So again, with this psychological mind game,
77
I try to feel out or get an idea of what kind of answer the interviewer may be wanting from me.
78
But I also will answer with authenticity or a real true answer.
79
I might want to appear more creative or I might want to appear disciplined
80
so some responses that are true
81
that I have said in the past are I like to work out I like to go to yoga I
82
like to cook I like to go to the movies
83
I like to draw of course your answer will probably be different
84
but these were my answers something else
85
that I like to ask during interviews is what's a challenge
86
you've faced at work this is obviously a little bit of a negative question
87
but your goal when you're answering it is to spin it into a positive answer an answer
88
that I have personally given to this question is one area I've been working on is saying yes to too many tasks.
89
I like being helpful and dependable, but I've learned that taking on too much can affect efficiency.
90
Now I'm more intentional about prioritizing and communicating timelines.
91
so i can deliver my best work so this type of answer shows
92
that you are self -aware
93
and you have a solution to this problem a really super important tip is dress professionally
94
if you are doing a virtual
95
or online interview you still want to look the best that you could look for this role.
96
So for example, I work in the beauty industry.
97
So it doesn't make sense if I show up to an interview with zero makeup,
98
with wet hair, and clothes that did not look pressed or ironed.
99
If I was a police officer, of course, my uniform should look really clean and tidy.
100
I should have a clean looking fresh haircut.
101
Unfortunately, appearance does matter.
102
That is just part of the role
103
and people will perceive you in a different way if you do not look the part.
104
To look the part means that you need to look like you fit in this role.
105
So those are my basic interview tips and tricks to help you to succeed.
106
So now let's do some basic interview question and responses.
107
I'm going to put on the screen the question as well as the answer.
108
I will be the interviewer.
109

110
