Pratica di Shadowing: Stop Shadowing: Try This Instead - Impara a parlare inglese con i video

Creazione lezione...
1
When you speak English, do you sound slow, flat, robotic?
2
Now, shadowing can help you with this,
3
but today I'm going to show you something even better that'll make your English sound natural and flow smoothly.
4
Let me show you.
5
Hello, it's Keith from the Keith Speaking Academy, here to help you become a confident speaker of English.
6
Welcome to the Fluency Lab series of videos.
7
I'm gonna show you three videos looking at the three main aspects of spoken fluency.
8
One, natural sound and rhythm in this video.
9
Two, continuous speech.
10
And three, retrieving language automatically.
11
Today, we're starting with sound, how to improve your rhythm, stress, and intonation.
12
We're gonna be using three drills today, humming, mumbling, and imitating.
13
And then at the end,
14
we'll put them all together with shadowing to make you or allow you to speak naturally and with a nice, smooth flow.
15
And remember, as always, there's a lovely PDF
16
You can download with lots of practice exercises so you can start practicing this method right now today. Are you ready?
17
Then let's begin.
18
Okay, let's begin with step one, humming.
19
So, take a short audio text.
20
Maybe something a bit like this.
21
Hello again.
22
How's it going?
23
I'm so pleased that you're learning English.
24
Good job.
25
OK.
26
Listen to a few seconds and then pause after each phrase and repeat the phrase humming.
27
You can hum or you can dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee dee.
28
Or you can da da da da da da da.
29
Whichever you like.
30
For example, let's do this together.
31
Listen.
32
Hello again.
33
How's it going?
34
I'm so pleased that you're learning English.
35
Good job!
36
Get it?
37
So what you're doing here is picking up the melody of English, the musicality.
38
Lovely word, musicality.
39
And it's important you're just humming or dd-ing so that you're focusing a hundred percent energy on the sound,
40
the rhythm, the stress, the intonation.
41
There's no thinking about the meaning, the words, because that's a heavy cognitive load.
42
You want a hundred percent focus on the musicality.
43
Lovely word.
44
And this is important because many learners will stress every word the same and it sounds flat.
45
Maybe because your mother tongue stresses every word or every syllable.
46
English doesn't.
47
It has different word stress, sentence stress and rhythm or intonation.
48
So this is really helping you focus on that.
49
Let's move on to step two.
50
Okay, step two is mumbling.
51
To mumble, another lovely word.
52
Musicality, mumble.
53
Mumble is to speak not clearly.
54
Now it's a bit like this.
55
Hello there.
56
How are you doing?
57
We're going to come and see you.
58
Yeah.
59
I'll get you a cup of tea.
60
You can almost make out the words, but what you hear is the group of sounds,
61
the shape of the phrase, the musical shape shape.
62
So here, again, we're getting closer to real English, but we're focusing on the sound, the stress, the intonation.
63
But we're focusing on the shape of sounds, if that makes sense.
64
Let's do this together with the same phrase.
65
Listen to what I do and then you try as well.
66
Okay, here we go.
67
Hello again.
68
Hello again.
69
How's it going?
70
How's it going?
71
I'm so pleased that you're learning English.
72
So pleased that you're learning English.
73
Good job.
74
Good job.
75
So you're picking the shapes, you're getting contractions and certain sounds, but it's not clear English.
76
And again, this is important because it's, there's no cognitive load.
77
You're not thinking, not thinking about the words.
78
You're just focusing on the sounds, the group of sounds.
79
I know it can sound a bit silly, but that's okay.
80
It's all part of the learning process.
81
Why don't you try?
82
Ready?
83
Hello again.
84
How's it going?
85
I'm so pleased that you're learning English.
86
Good job.
87
Sometimes it can help to close your eyes as you're listening.
88
Certainly do not read the sentence.
89
Use your ears.
90
Let's move on to the next step.
91
Right, the third step is imitating, which is repeating exactly the same thing.
92
So this is the next logical step to producing real English.
93
You're focusing on the sounds, the rhythm, the stress, but you want to produce the exact words.
94
Don't focus on the meaning yet, just focus on the sounds.
95
It'll look something like this.
96
Let's do it together.
97
I'll play, you say it, then I'll say it.
98
Hello again.
99
Hello again.
100
How's it going?
101
How's it going?
102
I'm so pleased that you're learning English.
103
I'm so pleased that you're learning English.
104
Good job.
105
Good job.
106
Right?
107
So we're taking a logical progression from the sound, the DDD, to the mumbling, to the real words and repeating them.
108
OK, a final step that is important, actually, is then to go and check you understand the meaning of the phrase.
109
Because the intonation and the meaning are also connected.
110
So you want to just check any words in a dictionary.
111
Just make sure you understand what you're saying.
112
And then the very final step is where we shadow.
113
Now, the difference between imitating and shadowing, imitating, you're stopping and repeating.
114
Shadowing, you're speaking at the same time as you listen.
115
So you're a second behind the speaker, but you're speaking on top of them at the same time.
116
we're putting all of these steps together, right?
117
Humming, mumbling, imitating, and shadowing.
118
Let me just show you how shadowing works.
119
Hello again.
120
Hello again.
121
How's it going?
122
How's it going?
123
I'm so pleased that you're learning English.
124
Good job.
125
Good job.
126
You see, we're speaking at the same time.
127
The big difference with shadowing, of course, is you're not pausing.
128
You're going straight through the whole text.
129
Put all of these together and it's a killer combination.
130
The humming, the mumbling, the imitating and the shadowing, all of that together, one after another with the same text.
131
It's really going to have a big impact on your intonation,
132
your rhythm, your stress and speaking smoothly and sounding more like a native speaker.
133
So this method is much better than just shadowing alone.
134
It's much better than reading aloud.
135
All of this together is really going to help you with your fluency.
136
It's just one aspect of fluency, right?
137
In the next Fluency Lab video, we'll be looking at continuous speech, how you keep talking over a long period.
138
Remember, the secret is in the practice.
139
Don't just watch me.
140
Download the PDF, have a look through it.
141
In there, you'll find examples of audio you can listen to.
142
I've broken it down how you can do it so you can be practicing again and again with different kinds of texts.
143
The link is in the description below.
144
By the way, if you want to have fun improving your fluency, get ready to join the Speaking Fluency Club.

153
Bye-bye.

"Hello again. How's it going?") e ripétela cantando o facendo "da da da" – focus solo sul ritmo e l'intonazione. 2.
