Why are many countries facing an ageing population?

Mainly because people are living longer and having fewer children.

Medical advances have extended life expectancy considerably.

Meanwhile, raising children has become prohibitively expensive.

The most obvious one is the strain on pension systems.

Fewer workers are supporting a growing number of retirees.
