1
Hello, it's Robin Sharma, and I'm really happy to see you.
2
I hope you are in hot pursuit of your ideals.
3
I hope you are chasing down your HVTs, your high-value targets.
4
I hope you are handcrafting a life that you adore,
5
and I hope you're in the process of changing the world.
6
Well, today I'd like to offer you some mentoring inspiration on what I call the two-telephone technique.
7
And I've got two phones right here to really make the point.
8
We live in the age of dramatic distraction,
9
and you know one of my popular brain tattoos,
10
which is an addiction to distraction is the death of your creative production.
11
I'm going to repeat that again because it's so important.
12
An addiction to distraction is the death of your creative production.
13
Now, you might say, Robin,
14
I've heard you say that before and I get it.
15
What I want to offer to you is do you live the underlying message under it,
16
which is you can play with your phone or you can change the world.
17
you don't get to do both.
18
And so the two telephone technique is a protocol that I've designed
19
and that I have offered to the one-on-one clients that I coach,
20
the billionaires and the superstars and the movement makers and the top scientists and the Hollywood royalty that I offer to you.
21
And I've mentioned it to you before,
22
but one phone is, let's call it your A phone,
23
and this is your fully loaded phone.
24
And it has the weather,
25
and it has the news,
26
and it has your apps,
27
and it has your email,
28
and it has your social feeds,
29
and it has your videos,
30
and it has everything that you need to be fully loaded in an age of digital dominance.
31
And then you have your secondary phone.
32
And this is your Spartan phone, the two telephone technique.
33
Your first phone, your primary phone.
34
This is your secondary phone.
35
I've actually used a different colored skin or protector to remind me.
36
And this phone is Spartan.
37
All you have on this phone is the basics.
38
It might just be a call feature that you turn off or it might just be SMS.
39
none of the other connection tools,
40
definitely no social media, definitely no videos,
41
definitely no news, definitely no weather.
42
And you carry this with you when you go on walks
43
or you carry this with you when you're in your five great hours work pocket.
44
Remember the five great hour rule that I explained in the Everyday Hero Manifesto?
45
But this is the phone that's with you most of the day.
46
And what that allows you to do is to be undefeatably indisturbable.
47
It allows you to get real work done versus fake work done.
48
It allows you to leave the cult of superficiality and do some deep thinking.
49
There's a lot of emerging research coming out
50
and they're saying the danger of social media and digital addiction is that it causes us think very superficially.
51
We get information in very short bites and the result of that,
52
and this is really important,
53
as a result of our snacking behavior in terms of the way we consume content,
54
it actually changes the way we consume content and it actually changes the structure of the brain and we become shallow thinkers.
55
And so what I want you to do is spend a lot less time
56
with your primary phone and I want you to start doing heroic work,
57
creating masterwork, being away from the world,
58
being hard to reach, being in your work cave.
59
Demosthenes, the great orator, was said to have a stuttering issue and so what he did for many months,
60
he went away from the world
61
and he hid in a cave where he would actually practice
62
and train to beat his stuttering and and to speak like a superstar.
63
And so to do great work,
64
you've got to find your cave or what I call in the 5M club,
65
for example, the tight bubble of total focus
66
where you go for at least five hours a day and you do heavyweight work.
67
You're not playing with your phone.
68
You're not checking social media notifications.
69
You're not looking at the news.
70
You're just working on your Project X,
71
that one project that when you release it into the world causes you to own the game,
72
to be domain dominant, to push magic into the world,
73
and to make a profound difference.
74
And so I want you to start the two telephone technique.
75
If you're not already doing it, start it today.
76
You will find it makes a profound difference in your focus,
77
productivity, performance, and happiness.
78
Because the last idea I will offer to you,
79
and I think it's important one but every time you close a loop
80
and get gorgeous work done
81
and keep a promise you've made to yourself there's a release of dopamine and actually makes you feel better.
82
See you in the next video.
83
Thank you.

  • “you can play with your phone or you can change the world”:
  • “addiction to distraction is the death of your creative production”: 이 문장에서 “is”는 정의를 나타내는데 사용되며, 'addiction'과 'death'는 주어와 보어 관계를 형성합니다.
  • “your primary phone vs. your Spartan phone”:
