1
There's few other decades that could compete with the complexity, intensity, and nostalgia that is your 20s.
2
It's where people are trying to figure themselves out, who they are, or who they want to become.
3
Wow, looks good.
4
We're not done yet, but it looks good.
5
We're not done yet, but it actually looks so good.
6
It's the best.
7
It's a decade where you naively enter it one way, and come out of it wildly different.
8
and what determines a lot of things happens in between.
9
Well, we made it.
10
If you've been following along, you know I've spent the better part of the last year working through my 20s list.
11
That resulted in me doing the absolute most for the past six months, squeezing out everything I could from the remainder of my 20s.
12
Naturally, the endeavor made me reminisce a lot on the past decade of my life, all the things I've done and all the things I haven't.
13
And there's so much that I wish I could tell my younger self.
14
And my 20s, they mean a lot to me.
15
It was when I started YouTube.
16
I have documented my life on here, shared the journey along the way.
17
So it only felt right for me to compile a list of lessons that I've learned throughout this beautiful, messy, defining decade.
18
Hey everyone, I'm Risa and today is my 20th birthday.
19
At the beginning of my 20s, I was so lost.
20
I couldn't be further from the person who I am right now.
21
I just dropped out of university.
22
I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.
23
I cared way too much about what people thought and I had no real sense of identity.
24
Hey guys, so today...
25
I think I was around 21 when I just knew things didn't really feel right
26
and so I remember buying a plane ticket.
27
The furthest that my broke college dropout money would take me
28
and I went on a solo trip for the first time ever.
29
And for the first time it was just me and my own thoughts.
30
No noise, no expectations, no outside opinions.
31
And that was when I really started to see myself and what I wanted in life.
32
But I feel like it was truly necessary for me to get away from everything to realize it.
33
It's easy to move through life chasing what's popular, admired, or expected of us without ever stopping to actually ask if that's what we want.
34
When you're constantly surrounded by other people's opinions, it's easy to lose track of your own.
35
And sometimes stepping back from that and thinking for yourself is the only way to start understanding what feels true to you.
36
Looking back, I still think that that was one of of the most pivotal moments in my life.
37
Don't get me wrong, that trip did not give me all the answers, but it gave me direction.
38
And it's also the trip where I rediscovered my love for filming and specifically YouTube,
39
which was a passion of mine that kind of faded into the background by that time.
40
And I remember like I packed my camera the trip
41
and I didn't touch it at all for the first like three weeks.
42
Then, you know, halfway through I started filming and I remembered how much I loved it.
43
And it was truly the catalyst that set me back on the right path, which led to today.
44
So yeah, it was pretty pivotal.
45
But knowing what you want and actually going for it are two completely different things.
46
One of the biggest struggles in my 20s, especially as an aspiring creative, was learning how to get out of my own way.
47
I remember this was such an issue for me.
48
Whether it was pursuing YouTube or meeting new people or just wearing the clothes I wanted to wear, I held myself back constantly.
49
This was around the time where I really started to make my own projects
50
And it was something that I would think about doing all the time I would sit there, maybe write something and backspace It was because I wanted things to be
51
so good And it would never be up to par with the idea
52
that I had in my head But
53
that kind of perfectionism just ended up holding me back
54
And doing the complete opposite of what I wanted to do And because of that, I delayed so many things
55
that I could have started earlier We live in a world
56
where putting yourself out there usually means opening the door to judgment or rejection And it's so much easier to just.. not.
57
To stay safe in our little bubble that our subconscious built for us.
58
But it wasn't until I realized
59
that the only way to get closer to the things I admired was to make the bad versions first.
60
And to make them often.
61
Because eventually, through repetition, you not only build confidence, but evidence for yourself.
62
Evidence that you can figure things out as you go
63
that you can refine things later and trusting that you'll grow into it along the way
64
looking back at a whole decade is very interesting
65
because you can clearly map out the turning points over
66
that course of time
67
and for me those turning points were the moments where i took really big risks
68
and huge leaps of faith those were the moments
69
that really propelled me forward for me it was dropping into school
70
and then i got a nine to five very short stint
71
and i quit to pursue freelance traveled a lot
72
and then freelancing later led me to youtube all those things were a domino effect
73
but none of it would have happened if i just stayed passive
74
and just accepted my circumstances
75
so get me wrong it was a constant feeling of being
76
uncomfortable stressed i was questioning my choices i was looking up jobs on indeed actually maybe i don't I don't recommend it.
77
But this is truly the era to take those risks, especially before having way more responsibilities down the road.
78
Your 20s are for experimenting and really taking big swings at life.
79
I wasn't being reckless, but I wasn't playing it safe either.
80
Very calculated risks.
81
I think our intuition knows when we have a certain tug towards something
82
that feels like it's the right decision and the right direction to go in.
83
And looking back, even though I had more questions than answers, I would always try to listen to that feeling and trust that intuition.
84
All those risks that I took led from one thing to another, and then eventually I found myself where I actually wanted to be.
85
And ultimately, you have to trust yourself that you can handle whatever comes of it.
86
That's why we got to figure it out on the wrist, but I'm glad I went through that then, then now.
87
I think it's important to be intentional when it comes to what you consume and what you spend your time doing.
88
Time is easy to waste when you assume you have a lot of it.
89
And this is not something that hit me until like, I don't know, a year ago?
90
People would always tell me, you're so young, you have so much time.
91
And so hearing that, I did what most people do.
92
I put things off, I waited for the right moment, let the years just kind of pass by thinking that I will eventually get to it.
93
The time moves whether you're being intentional with it or not.
94
And being intentional doesn't mean like optimizing every single second, it just means making sure your time actually goes towards things that matter to you, not just whatever fills the space.
95
Because we'll always kind of find things to fill that time.
96
That's what ultimately led me to making the 20s list in the first place.
97
Suddenly I found myself at the end of this era, and while I'm proud of the growth that I had, there were some things that I thought I would have done that slipped through the cracks without me noticing.
98
So even if you want to do these things, whether it's try a new hobby or start working out consistently, it doesn't mean you'll actually do it,
99
unless you're intentional with your time and priorities, and you'd be surprised what can actually come out of that.
100
But being intentional with your time doesn't just mean doing more or doing better.
101
As much as I think it's important to have goals and figure out a direction you want to go, as much as your 20s are for building, I think it's important not to get lost in that either.
102
I would often try to bulldoze my way through a project.
103
I would stay up late, cancel plans with friends, I would skip family gatherings, convincing myself that whatever I was working on was more important.
104
And of course, found out the hard way that it wasn't.
105
But I learned it's not just the big things that matter, it's how you live your life every day in between that matters just as much.
106
I would often think, after I get this work thing done, then I can do this life thing.
107
I can't wait until I finish this so I can do that.
108
But more often than not, things take way longer than you think they do, projects get delayed, life comes up, and that time that you were saving never really arrives.
109
Through this approach I was living my life in blocks of time.
110
I was grinding and crashing, grinding and crashing, and I came out of my 20s actually valuing and wanting more steadiness.
111
Instead of always being in the extremes it's better to learn how to do the work, passions, and life at the same time, not one after the other.
112
In the pursuit of In the big goals, we often sacrifice a lot of small moments in between that make up 90% of our life.
113
All those ordinary days added together, that's what a decade actually is.
114
And you don't just stumble into balance, you have to keep choosing it.
115
Boom.
116
There it is.
117
Well, I can't believe we're here.
118
We are done.
119
The list.
120
I've been staring at this thing on my wall for months.
121
I didn't check off all of them, but most of them.
122
Surprisingly.
123
Learning to drive manual was definitely my favorite.
124
And the DIY TV room, that was the hardest.
125
I was done.
126
I was so done.
127
It was enough DIY for me.
128
And we have one more, which I will save.
129
You know, I thought that this list was my way to expedite catching up.
130
The truth is, you can't really rush a life in the making.
131
I learned a lot through the past decade of my life and even more through the past six months.
132
These were only a few lessons, but I could come up with a hundred more.
133
When I made this list, I was feeling incredibly behind, but ended up being the craziest send off into the next chapter of my life.
134
I knew
135
that the world wouldn't implode once I turned 30, but a send-off felt like it was needed.
136
I used to think my 20s were this big old contradiction, but now I see it's one long journey of becoming.
137
This era of my life felt it was both the best of it and the worst of it.
138
But what I realize now is that's precisely the point.
139
You'll mess up, sometimes badly.
140
You'll fall in and out of love, usually both and not in that order.
141
You'll feel ahead, then behind Chase your dreams Be completely out of your dub You'll grow
142
The people around you will too And you'll realize that This is the unfolding So whatever you choose to do
143
I hope you make the most of it See ya
144
See ya.
145
I don't think your 20s ever turn out exactly the way you think they will.
146
But everything, eventually, comes together like how it's supposed to.

Вы практикуете английский с "Lessons I Learned From My 20s" с помощью техники Shadowing — метода, разработанного для подготовки профессиональных переводчиков.

Слушайте каждое предложение, обращайте внимание на ударения и связывание звуков, затем повторяйте вслух уверенно. 15–30 минут ежедневной практики дадут заметные результаты.

Что такое техника Shadowing?
