1
Joined by a true global sporting superstar right now, Ninggu.
2
How are you?
3
How are you doing?
4
I'm incredible.
5
So happy to be here in Paris.
6
You have been everywhere at these games.
7
Absolutely everywhere I turn.
8
Every time I turn on the TV, you're there.
9
Those pictures of you and the diver, they're wonderful, fantastic images.
10
But amongst all the things you've seen so far from Team China, what's been the standout for you so far?
11
And what are you looking forward to seeing?
12
I have seen so many incredible events.
13
The women's diving synchronized was incredible.
14
Last night we also went and watched the Asia record-breaking performance by the medley team, the relay team, and my friend Zhang Yifei was competing
15
and I got to see her and meet her and that was really exciting.
16
Honestly, there have been so many incredible performances by the Chinese team and all the athletes here in Paris.
17
Coming up, what are you looking forward to?
18
Still a long where to go in these games.
19
It's true.
20
One thing that I'm really excited about is the public marathon.
21
So that's going to be happening on the same day and the same course as the actual Olympic marathon.
22
I got lucky enough to get an invite a little over a week ago.
23
So I'm going to be training for this marathon in three weeks.
24
I've never run a marathon before.
25
And I'm looking at your face and- You're doing a marathon?
26
You're doing it after three weeks' notice?
27
Yes.
28
So this is kind of the reaction I've been getting.
29
Good luck.
30
I looked online for three-week marathon program, and the only thing I saw was, don't.
31
I think it'll be okay.
32
You'll be fine.
33
I mean, come on.
34
Somebody has fitted yourself.
35
I'm sure you'll be fine.
36
But how has the training gone?
37
What have you been taught us through your training regime?
38
Okay, happily.
39
First of all, I'm a very amateur runner.
40
I would like to preface with that.
41
So I did grow up running cross country and track.
42
And so that was my primary sport for a long time.
43
And so I feel confident in just running generally, but I've never run that distance.
44
I used to run 5Ks.
45
So it's definitely been a big uptick in the mileage.
46
I really went from running, you know, 15, 20 miles a week to 60.
47
Just think of it as lots and lots of little 5Ks.
48
Many of them.
49
Quite a few of them.
50
There's a small chance that I might be running around
51
that track a little bit as well we're gonna have to try
52
and spot you'll spot me I'll be bright red sweating
53
and breathing far too heavily and all those days
54
so alive the elevation is going to be immense 600 meters
55
oh yeah okay well best of luck to a best of
56
luck to you we'll see how we get on with that
57
but you're here at the summer games you've you know does this like
58
that fire inside of you looking ahead two years to where to Milan
59
and thinking I want to get back out there on the slopes i want to get back out there
60
and winning more balls absolutely i think watching as a spectator
61
has really made me take note of how much the competition is mental
62
so i've always said since i was 14 15
63
and started competing professionally or on the professional tour
64
that anyone who makes finals has the capacity to win
65
but why are the ones who continue to win the stars per se what makes them different
66
and i think that now i have a better understanding
67
that it really is performing when it counts under pressure on
68
that day not the day before not the day after
69
but really on the day that it counts peaking at the right time
70
so it's definitely been giving me insight into
71
that of course celebrating my friends checking out the olympic village and cheering
72
so loudly from the stands has have all been incredible highlights as well the mental side final bit on
73
that is that is there something like a switch in your head
74
that you have to switch over from this is training day
75
to this is game day this is race day how does that function in your in your mind with that
76
i have a saying for myself that i train like i've never won and i compete like i've never lost
77
So when it's competition day, I definitely have a switch in my head.
78
I would like to think of myself as a pretty amicable, nice person, but you have to be a killer when it's competition day
79
and so I think yeah making a switch
80
because I would love to be pleasant
81
and fun with my friends I'm not trying to be a murderer in my daily life
82
but yeah there's time time and place good stuff wonderful thank you
83
so much for talking to us best of luck in two
84
years time before we go one final what what where are you off to next
85
and what is the the big thing
86
that you're looking forward to for the rest the games oh tonight i'm going to be going to swimming
87
and try to make it to track and field as well
88
and then the rest of the games i have friends competing in skateboarding
89
and i'm also really excited to be watching the break dancing
90
finals with president thomas bach on the ninth do you know
91
they don't get to pick their music what that's what i've
92
heard they don't get to pick the music you find out the music
93
and you like freestyle to the music exactly that's
94
so cool i think that makes sense in terms of creating judging criteria
95
because otherwise everyone's performance is so good how do you compare?
96
Wow!
97
I'm glad that's the reaction I was looking for because everybody else I see that too they go No, imagine you've just prepared.
98
Sure.
99
And you get something you've never heard before.
100
Extemporaneous dancing.
101
Wow!
102
Incredible!
103
I'm excited.
104
We could talk to you all day but I'm not allowed to because your time's precious.
105
We've got to go.
106
Thanks very much for your time.
107
Thank you!
108
Really appreciate it.
109
It was great talking to you.
