Because you're never here, that's why.

We've been over this, Virginia.

I do my part.

That's the problem, Alan.

You think your part is just getting a paycheck.

A paycheck?

This family lives like no other family we know.

Thank you.

Jessica, honey.

What's going on?

We're just having an argument.

It'll be okay.

You don't need to sugarcoat things for her, Alan.

And you'd know this if you were ever here, instead of outdoing whatever it is you're doing.

What I'm outdoing is saving lives, and you know it!

Well, maybe if you worked as hard on our relationship as you do for your patients, What's happening wouldn't be happening.

What's happening?

Your father and I are taking a little break for a while.

How long?

I don't know, baby.

I don't know.

Jessica, what a surprise.

You never come to my office.

When did you get home from school?

This morning.

If I'd known you were coming, I-- I didn't want you to know, Dad.

I have some news.

What is it?

Is everything okay?

I got into Harvard Law next year.

And I'm going.

- What?

I'm going to be a lawyer.

What happened to our plan of you becoming a surgeon?

That was never our plan, Dad.

It was always yours.

Don't you speak to me like that.

I'm not speaking to you like anything.

I'm telling you the truth.

You want the truth?

Doctors save lives and lawyers are nothing but power hungry bottom feeders.

They don't have to be and I'm not going to be.

And I raised you better.

No dad, you raised me to do what inspires me and what inspires me is to be a lawyer.

You go to that school, you're gonna get infected with their lawyer mindset and when you come out, You're not gonna give a shit about your fellow man.

If you think that, then you should have spent more time with me.

Because you don't know me at all.

- - Lewis!

What a pleasure to see you.

Thank you, Mr. Goldfarb.

It's a pleasure to see both of you.

These are for you.

Sorry I didn't bring anything for you, Mr. G.

Well, if you need any ideas, those new Trans Ams are pretty spiffy.

Ha!

That's hilarious.

Everyone knows only jerks drive fast cars.

So what are the big plans tonight?

Wait for it.

The Scarsdale Repertory Company is performing Uncle Vanya.

Wow.

That sounds thrilling.

Don't tell Mitzi.

I wanna make sure - Don't tell me what?

Why?

You're all right.

How do I look?

The most beautiful girl in the world.

You're the best boyfriends in the world.

Have her home by 11 :00, Tiger.

I'll do you one better, Mr. G.

I'll have her home by 10 :30.

Hey Louis.

Do you have a second?

No, Esther.

And if you're here to apologize for you and Trisha Vandermeer saying I was losing my hair, I'm not interested.

It's not about that, Louis.

I wanted to ask how things are going with Mitzi Goldfarb.

Things are amazing.

Why do you ask?

I wouldn't be a very good sister if I didn't tell you about a rumor that I heard.

What rumor?

That Mitzi's been seeing Drake Johnson behind your back.

Are you kidding me?

Drake the Snake.

I don't even know why they call him that.

He doesn't look anything like a snake.

What on earth would Mitzi want with him?

I don't know, Louis.

I just know what I heard.

Well, did you hear from either of them?

hearsay and inadmissible and I moved to strike it from the record.

Lewis what is wrong with you okay?

This isn't some meeting of your Future Lawyers of America club.

I'm your sister, I'm looking out for you.

Bullshit you are!

You can't stand to see me happy.

And for your information, it's future lawyers of the world.

Okay, Mr. Future Lawyer, if you really don't believe me, you can come see it for yourself.

100

What's that supposed to mean?

101

It means Bobby Sabatini's having a party tomorrow night, and I bet you a million dollars Mitzi's going with Drake.

102

That's ridiculous.

103

Mitzi and her girlfriends are washing their hair with a new shampoo they got from Europe.

104

Okay, Louis.

105

You tell yourself whatever you want.

106

But if I were you, I'd want to know the truth.

107

Grabbing the bitch, listen to the house and go.

108

Oh my God.

109

Lewis!

110

What are you doing here?

111

What do you think I'm doing?

112

You gave me rid of that malicious rumor you tried to spread about Mitzi and Drake.

113

Lewis, you're right, okay?

114

I was just jealous of you.

115

There's nothing going on between them, so why don't you just go get some ice cream?

116

I came to learn the truth.

117

Is Mitzi here?

118

I said she's goddamn here!

119

She's upstairs.

120

Wait, I can come with you.

121

I don't need my little sister escorting me.

122

Leave me alone.

123

Mitzi?

124

Dude, shut the freaking door.

125

Sorry.

126

Not for nothing, but First Lady Nancy Reagan says just say no. - Louis?

127

- Betsy.

128

What are you doing here?

129

I heard a horrible rumor about you and Drake.

130

I didn't want to believe it was true, but I had to find out.

131

Lewis, it's Not a rumor.

132

I've been seeing Drake.

133

- Hi.

134

I don't understand.

135

Why would you date two guys at the same time?

136

Because my parents wouldn't approve of him, but they do approve of you.

137

They think you're with me right now, don't they?

138

But the truth is, you're with him and he's in that bedroom right now.

139

Oh, Louis.

140

Well, I guess I don't have to worry about it being a roomer anymore.

141

Oh, wait.

142

I just need to know, our plans tomorrow night?

143

Are we still on?

144

Mitzi, if you think you can say something that'll get me to forgive you, I'm...

145

I'll see you at 6 :30.

146

Hey Lynn, that's what you'll find out your girlfriend's with this snake.

147

Say one more word to my brother and I will knock your goddamn head off.

148

Alright.

149

Come on, Liz.

150

Let's go home.

151

Thanks, Esther.

152

Hey, you think maybe we could stop for Soda or something along the way?

153

Of course we can.

154

I'm going to go to the next one.

155

Oh!

156

- - Can I get your autograph?

157

- Where's dad?

158

Oh, sweetheart.

159

He wanted to be here.

160

You said he would be here.

161

Harvey, his gig got extended last night and I didn't want to tell you before the games.

162

You lied and pretended he was gonna be here when you knew he wasn't?

163

Harvey, stop.

164

That was the most important game of my life and he wasn't here.

165

And he feels horrible about it, but he, your dad is working his butt off for us. So what?

166

I just played the best I ever have!

167

And every time I looked up, The only person I could see was you!

168

How could you do that to me?

169

I'm doing the best I can, Harvey.

170

None of us are perfect.

171

Yeah?

172

Well, I was today.

173

Now it's all ruined because of you!

174

Mom?

175

Dad!

176

- Grammy, what are you doing here?

177

Where's mom?

178

I'm gonna give her a hug.

179

Dad too.

180

What?

181

You told me not to be mad at them last night, remember?

182

You said once they got home I should tell them I saw her and give them a hug.

183

but They didn't wake me up, so I didn't get to.

184

Now I want to.

185

Thank you.

186

Michael, I have to tell you something.

187

What is it?

188

Your parents.

189

Last night?

190

They were in a car accident. But...

191

They're gonna be okay, right?

192

And Michael, they passed away.

193

Thank you.

194

What?

195

No. No, they can't be.

196

You're wrong!

197

I wish I were like...

198

I wish I...

199

Why did you wake me up?

200

I could have gone to the hospital.

201

I could have seen them.

202

They didn't make it to the hospital, sweetheart, and I...

203

Didn't want to tell you until I had to.

204

How could you do this to me?

205

How could you not wake me up?

206

Been traveling these wide roads for so long.

207

My heart's been far from you.

208

The white ones are best.

209

You're just here to make me go in.

210

I am.

211

Because sometimes we make choices we're not old enough to make.

212

And then I regret them.

213

I don't want that to happen to you.

214

Why would I regret not going into that place?

215

Because it's a chance to say goodbye to your parents.

216

I already missed that.

217

Hey!

218

Sometimes When people lose someone they love, they get mad at them.

219

I'm not mad at them.

220

I'm at a god.

221

I understand you're mad at God.

222

Maybe you're even mad at me too.

223

But I came out here to give you something.

224

St. William.

225

Patriot saint of orphans.

226

- You know who this is?

227

- I know who all the saints are.

228

I don't want it.

229

I don't want to be an orphan.

230

- You don't take it.

231

Because the truth is orphans are alone. And you're not.

232

- But not going in there, isn't gonna change what happened.

233

And right now your grandmother needs you.

234

But if you stay out here, She's gonna have to face today alone.

235

Amen.

236

a dismissal is never gonna happen, son.

237

Sorry for your loss.

238

What?

239

I'm saying don't hope for a dismissal.

240

Please direct your questions to our client.

241

That wasn't a question, it was a comment.

242

Here's a question for you, Mr. Diamond.

243

What is this really worth to you?

244

You may think you have defense, your lawyer certainly thinks you do.

245

I just want to be clear about the facts.

246

What is this really worth to you?

247

There's no question, this was a terrible accident.

248

Let's be clear about the facts.

249

His blood alcohol leveled.

250

is an issue here.

251

- Okay.

252

If you pursue this in court, there's no guarantee you'll receive anything.

253

Think about the boy.

254

Think about what he needs.

255

Something is better than nothing.

256

- Stop stalling, Mr. Ross.
