1
How can we find work-life balance when it feels like work is never ending?
2
This is something I struggled with in the past year,
3
but I think I figured it out now.
4
This past year, I basically have had no social life,
5
and I typically was working from the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep.
6
and while I did get a lot of things done,
7
it also led to extreme burnout and honestly not the best mental or physical health.
8
But after I implemented a few changes into my daily routine,
9
I started to feel a lot better and I also felt like my schedule was way more manageable.
10
So today I wanted to share some of those tips with you guys.
11
One thing I do every day that is non-negotiable for me is follow my morning routine.
12
I'm really not a morning person and I will never be
13
that person who gets up at 5am just to get a head start on the day,
14
but I've found that doing something I love right
15
when I wake up is really encouraging and helps me get out of bed in the morning.
16
So I usually will spend around 20 minutes reading,
17
playing a game, or watching YouTube,
18
just so I know
19
that every day I can do something for myself instead of just immediately jumping into a bunch of work.
20
I also like to do my makeup pretty early in the day.
21
It just makes me feel more put together and feeling better about my appearance also motivates me to be more productive.
22
When it comes to work,
23
I do like to keep a calendar.
24
I've had both physical and electronic calendars before,
25
and right now I keep a mix of both.
26
I think writing things down on paper sometimes makes them feel more tangible,
27
and it feels really good to check things off once I've
28
But maybe one of the most important things I've realized this past year is
29
that it's super important to take breaks and focus on self-care.
30
Even if you feel like you don't have the time to fit it in your schedule,
31
these breaks don't really need to be an hour long.
32
It can just be a short 15 minute break in your day to focus on yourself and do something that you like.
33
For me, I like to go out on a short walk,
34
breathe in some fresh air,
35
and move my body, or maybe take a short reading break.
36
It can literally be anything,
37
as long as it's something you enjoy doing that doesn't take up too much time from your busy day.
38
The main point is to give your brain some time to rest
39
and find joy in the little things in life instead of working non-stop all the time.
40
I call this my mental reset because sometimes I get frustrated at myself
41
when I'm not being productive all day but honestly sometimes all you need is to step back a little bit,
42
acknowledge how much work you've already done,
43
and reward yourself by doing something you love to do.
44
Because even with a super busy schedule,
45
it's still possible to appreciate the things in life that make us happy.
46
I used to feel really guilty when I wasn't working,
47
and to be honest, sometimes I still do.
48
But I think it's important to realize
49
that you're not going to be doing your best work
50
when you're burnout or overwhelmed with all the tasks you have to do.
51
So sometimes just taking a break and relaxing
52
and doing something just for yourself means that when you go back to work later you'll be doing much more high-quality work.
53
So it's really a win-win situation.
54
These are just some things I've done to help me find that work-life balance.
55
I mean even now I I don't really have a social life,
56
but that's just because my alone time is very important to me.
57
Also, I wanna say, I don't think that there's a standard schedule that everyone can follow in order to be more productive,
58
because everyone is different, everyone has different goals,
59
everyone has different capabilities, but I think everyone can benefit from finding a few things
60
that you can implement in your daily schedule that make you happy and focusing on the positive things in life.
61
Anyway, I hope you guys were able to gain something from my experience
62
and let me know in the comments what you like to do to relieve stress or manage your busy schedule.
63
And I'll see you guys next time.
64
Bye-bye.

Utilizing this video for shadowspeaks can improve pronunciation and increase confidence when discussing topics related to work and self-care.

Grammar & Expressions in Context

The speaker employs several key structures and expressions throughout the transcript that are worth noting:

  • Non-negotiable: The phrase "is non-negotiable for me" highlights the importance of certain daily habits, emphasizing commitment. This structure can be used to express what is essential in one's routine.
  • Something I love: Phrasing this way emphasizes personal enjoyment and can be a useful expression to describe activities in English.
  • Even if: The expression "even if you feel like you don't have the time" introduces conditionality, which is a useful grammar point for forming hypotheticals—a critical skill in both casual and formal conversation.
  • Find joy in: This phrase speaks to discovering happiness in simple activities and can be a great way to expand vocabulary around emotions and subjective experiences.

Common Pronunciation Traps

When practicing the sentences from this video, English learners should pay attention to potential pronunciation challenges:

  • Burnout: Many speakers might struggle with articulating the /bɜːrnˌaʊt/ sound. Focusing on separating the two syllables can aid clarity.
  • Motivate: This word often becomes pronounced too quickly. Emphasizing the second syllable /ˈmoʊ.tɪ.veɪt/ can enhance fluency and sound more natural.
  • Manageable: Look out for the /ˈmæn.ɪ.dʒə.bəl/ pronunciation, as the middle syllable can sometimes be lost in faster speech. Slow practice can help here.

By focusing on these aspects, learners can effectively utilize the shadowing site technique to refine their speaking skills while enjoying engaging content. Shadowing the speaker not only aids pronunciation but also helps learners become more comfortable with varied vocabulary and expressions used in everyday conversations.
