9
there were televisions, but only black and white ones.

15
You didn't know what colour people's clothes were or anything like that.
16
anyway the day I want to tell you about was in
17
1967 it was the day color televisions arrived in the shops
18
my dad wanted to get one of the first ones
19
so he and I waited outside the shop early in the morning then
20
when it opened we We hurried in to buy one.
21
My dad and uncle carried it back to our flat in its box.
22
It was big and heavy and it was hard work for them to carry it up the stairs to the flat.
23
We were all so excited.
24
When everything was ready, Mum turned on the TV.
25
We waited and then there was the picture in colour.
26
A great moment.
27
Yes.
28
And the first programme we watched was tennis.
29
Green grass, white balls, it was fantastic!
30
And now everything we see on TV is in colour and we don't think about it.
31
Yes, I know.
32

About This Lesson

  • Black and white: "Nero e bianco" (riferito a televisori o immagini senza colori).
  • To hurry in: "Affrettarsi ad entrare" (es. "We hurried in to buy one" = "Ci siamo affrettati ad entrare per comprarne uno").
  • To turn on: "Accendere" (es. "Mum turned on the TV" = "Mamma ha acceso la TV").
  • Fact: "Fatto" (riferito a informazioni storiche o reali, es. "Can you tell me a fact about Henry VIII?" = "Puoi dirmi un fatto su Enrico VIII?").
  • To share a memory: "Condividere un ricordo" (es. "Thank you for sharing your memory" = "Grazie per aver condiviso il tuo ricordo").

Concentrati su frasi come "We were all so excited" o "He had six wives" – notare come le parole si connettono naturalmente.
