Second conditional
|---|---|---|
If I had more time, | I'd learn the piano. |
If she didn't work so late, | she wouldn't be so tired. |
If you won the lottery, | what would you do? |
d = would(I'd、she'd、we'd)。 Would you move abroad if you could? — Yes, I would. / No, I wouldn't. 主節では would の代わりに could(= would be able to、〜できるだろう)や might(= would perhaps、〜かもしれない)も使えます。if 節で could(= if I were able to、もし〜できたら)を使うこともできます。
If I had a car, I could drive you home.
(could = would be able to)
If we left now, we might catch the last train.
(might = would perhaps)
If I could live anywhere, I'd choose Da Lat.
チェック方法:結果の部分に would があれば、if 節は過去形に一つずらします(have → had、can → could、am/is → were)。
2.使い方
If I knew her number, I'd call her.
We would visit you more often if we didn't live so far away.
What would you do if you lost your job tomorrow?
If animals could talk, my cat would complain all day.
If I were you, I'd…
If I were you, I'd talk to her before you decide.
I wouldn't sign that contract if I were you.
It would be great if you could send it by Friday.
Would you mind if I opened the window?
3.were か was か
be 動詞の場合、if 節ではどの人称でも were を使います:if I were、if she were、if it were。
If she were here, she'd know what to do.
If it was a bit cheaper, I'd buy it.
改まった形:if it were)
Were I… = If I were…(レッスン「倒置」を参照)。
If the factory were to close, hundreds of people would lose their jobs.
Were I in your position, I would accept the offer.
|---|---|---|
| 形 | if + 現在形, will + 動詞の原形 | if + 過去形, would + 動詞の原形 |
If I get the job, I'll buy a motorbike.
If I got the job, I'd buy a motorbike.
If it rains tomorrow, we'll stay at home.
If it snowed in Ho Chi Minh City, everyone would go crazy.
「If I had wings, I will fly」も「If I have time, I would help」も間違いです。
If I would have more money, I would buy a laptop. If I had more money, I would buy a laptop.
If I had wings, I will fly to school. If I had wings, I would fly to school.
If I am you, I would apologise.If I were you, I'd apologise.
アドバイスには If I were you を使います。
He's not good at English. If he speaks better, he would get the job. He's not good at English. If he spoke better, he would get the job.
If I knew her number, I would called her.If I knew her number, I would call her.
What you would do if you won? What would you do if you won?
- If I were rich, I would travel around the world.
- If we lived near the sea, we would swim every day.
- If I knew her number, I would call her.
- Nam never studies. If he studied harder, he would pass the exam.
