a few / a little, much / many, a lot of, plenty of, none of — 量や数がどれくらいかを言う
a lot of, lots of, plenty of
|---|---|---|
| 多い | many friends · a lot of / lots of friends | much time · a lot of / lots of time |
| 十分すぎるほどある | plenty of chairs | plenty of time |
| 少しある(足りる) | a few eggs | a little milk |
| とても少ない — ほとんどない | few people | little traffic |
How many students…? | How much sugar…? |
2.much、many、a lot of
How many cousins have you got?
We don't have much time, so let's take a taxi.
How much is this bag?
How much…?)
Are there many tourists in Sa Pa in winter?
肯定文では、ネイティブはふつう a lot of / lots of を好みます。「I have much time」はとても不自然に聞こえます。 例外:too much, so much, too many, so many は肯定文でもまったく自然です。
Lan has a lot of friends at university.
I drink lots of water when it's hot.
You put too much salt in the soup.
There were so many people at the night market!
- a lot of + 名詞。 I eat a lot of fruit. / I eat a lot.
How many eggs do we need? — Not many. / Just a few.
I don't sleep much. 肯定文では I sleep a lot.
3.a few / a little と few / little
a few / a little =「少しある」— 足りている、肯定的な感じです。
I have a few friends here. | I have few friends here. |
There's a little rice left. | There's little rice left. |
I bought a few mangoes at the market.
Can I have a little sugar in my coffee?

We have little money this month, so we're eating at home.
日常会話では not many / not much や only a few / only a little のほうがよく使われます:Not many people came. / I only have a little time.
4.plenty of と none of
plenty of =「たくさん」、「十分すぎるほど」。
Don't rush. We've got plenty of time.

none of の後ろには the / my / these… + 名詞、または代名詞 us / you / them / it が来ます。

- 名詞の前に the / my… I have no friends here(none of friends ではない)。レッスン「No / none / any, nothing / nobody」を見てください。
- none of + 複数名詞の後ろの動詞は、単数でも複数でもかまいません — None of my friends smoke / smokes.
- 「all / most / some of…」の言い方は、レッスン「All / most / some / none of」を見てください。
