a few / a little, much / many, a lot of, plenty of, none of — 양이나 수가 얼마나 되는지 말하기
종류마다 쓰는 말이 다릅니다. a lot of, lots of, plenty of만 둘 다에 쓸 수 있습니다.
|---|---|---|
| 많음 | many friends · a lot of / lots of friends | much time · a lot of / lots of time |
| 충분하고도 남음 | plenty of chairs | plenty of time |
| 조금 있음(충분함) | a few eggs | a little milk |
| 아주 적음 — 거의 없음 | few people | little traffic |
How many students…? | How much sugar…? |
한국어는 수에도 양에도 “많다”, “조금”을 쓰기 때문에 much people이나 a little friends라고 말하기 쉽습니다.
2.much, many, a lot of

긍정문에서는 원어민이 보통 a lot of / lots of를 더 좋아합니다. “I have much time”은 아주 어색하게 들립니다. many는 긍정문에도 쓸 수 있지만(Many people think…) 예외: too much, so much, too many, so many는 긍정문에서도 아주 자연스럽습니다.
Lan has a lot of friends at university.
I drink lots of water when it's hot.

- a lot of + 명사. I eat a lot of fruit. / I eat a lot.
How many eggs do we need? — Not many. / Just a few.
- 동사 뒤에 much만 쓰는 것(very / so / too 없이)은 주로 부정문과 의문문에서입니다: I don't sleep much. 긍정문에서는 I sleep a lot.
3.a few / a little과 few / little
|---|---|---|
I have a few friends here. | I have few friends here. |
There's a little rice left. | There's little rice left. |

일상 대화에서는 not many / not much나 only a few / only a little을 더 자주 씁니다: Not many people came. / I only have a little time.
4.plenty of와 none of

- 명사 앞에 the / my…가 없으면 none of가 아니라 no를 씁니다: I have no friends here(none of friends가 아님). 「No / none / any, nothing / nobody」 레슨을 참고하세요.
- none of + 복수 명사 뒤의 동사는 단수도 복수도 됩니다 — None of my friends smoke / smokes.
