의문사 + to 부정사
초급Question word + to-infinitive
how to…, what to…, where to…
1.형태
의문사 + to + 동사원형은 문장 속의 짧은 의문문처럼 쓰입니다: what to do = 무엇을 해야 할지, where to go = 어디로 가야 할지. know, decide, learn, remember, ask, explain, tell, show…
|---|---|---|
| what to | I don't know what to say.
| where to | Do you know where to buy tickets?
| how to | My grandma is learning how to send emails.
| when to | Tell me when to stop.
| who to | I'm not sure who to ask.
| which / what + 명사 + to | We can't decide which film to watch.
| how much / how many + to | I don't know how much to tip.
| whether to | She can't decide whether to stay or leave.
(I don't know what say는 틀림).
We're lost. We don't know which way to go.
I'm not sure what to wear to the interview.
Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to the bus station?
Do you know where to park around here?
3. 방법을 배우거나 가르치거나 보여 줄 때 — learn / teach / show + how to
I learned how to swim when I was six.
Can you show me how to use this machine?
Have you decided where to go for your holiday?
I always forget how to spell “necessary”.
tell, show, teach, ask는 사람이 동사 바로 뒤, 의문사 앞에 옵니다. explain은 다릅니다: explain to me how to…처럼 쓰거나, 사람을 빼고 explain how to…
She showed me how to fold a paper crane.
Could you explain to me what to do next?
(explain me는 틀림)

| Do you know where to buy tickets? | Do you know where she bought her ticket?
| I can't remember how to get there. | I can't remember how far it is. (to를 쓸 수 없음) |
I don't know why I should go(why to go는 틀림).
- to부정사 앞에서는 if가 아니라 whether를 씁니다: I'm not sure whether to call him.
- learn 뒤에서는 how를 생략할 수 있습니다: learn to swim = learn how to swim.
