Welcome to Young Business Professionals.

I'm Felix and this is another video of our automotive know-how video series.
3
I will give you an introduction into a so-called control plan.

7
Well now let me introduce control plans to you.
8
A control plan is making sure
9
that the production process of a product is running under controllable
10
or manageable circumstances so products without failures respectively products according to customer requirements can be produced.
11
It is a tool defined by the IETF 6949 standard, but was also mentioned already within QS 9000.
12
It defines important product and process characteristics of a product
13
or a product group and specifies how these characteristics have to be monitored.
14
The control plan is also part of the AP QP process and is touched the first time in phase two,
15
alternatively phase three of the project
16
if a control plan for prototypes is being made already then it's touched already in phase two
17
but latest you start to use it to be for pre-serial
18
components respectively in phase three i have created this chart in
19
order to explain a little bit more in detail how a process plan looks like,
20
which inputs he's using, what you can do with that tool and what should be the result of using it.
21
Within a control plan, you're listing the production process of the product,
22
starting from raw materials entering your plant until the finished goods leaving your plant.
23
This is already described in a process flowchart, so the information from the flowchart can be carried over to the control plan.
24
Each process may influence specific characteristics of the products that will be listed in the control plan as well.
25
These characteristics might be special characteristics requested by a customer
26
but it might be also usual dimensional characteristics specified on the drawing of the product
27
or it might be information derived from the product and process FMEA.
28
Once these characteristics are all listed in the control plan, a test method per characteristic is defined in order to make sure that it will be checked.
29
You are also defining a checking frequency in the plan
30
and actions that have to be initiated once the characteristics cannot be fulfilled.
31
So then, during the production of the product,
32
this plan is controlling that all these defined requirements will be kept and in case one of them is not kept,
33
a specific action is derived that will either make sure
34
that the requirements will be fulfilled after some rework action or similar or the product is exiting the process.
35
On this way, the control plan makes sure that just products according to defined requirements may leave the company.
36
In order to increase your understanding, I have also listed here a number of information that are typically part of a control plan,
37
such as the date of creation or the change of the control plan or change level of the control plan,
38
customer information, such as the customer part number or similar, the supplier description and location,
39
so the production plan of the producing company,
40
the part number and part description of the supplier, the engineering change level of the component itself.
41
That is important because once you perform an engineering change to the product
42
or to the process you need to also revise the control
43
plan accordingly the level of the control plan is it used for prototypes is it used for pre-serial production
44
or for serial production needs to be marked supplier contact information
45
should be available so the customer can get in touch with somebody that can answer some questions on that control plan
46
then there should be a process step description based on the process flow chart
47
in the best case also the numbers of the pros process flow chart are carried over to the process
48
steps in the control plan.
49
In addition, special characteristics are included in the control plan and they are marked exclusively.
50
Also, the specification of characteristics have to be defined in the control plan,
51
such, for example, like tolerances of a dimension
52
and also the number of the equipment of the relevant process step in
53
which a dimension might be influenced should be mentioned as well as general test methods
54
and evaluation techniques should be listed in control plans it's important to add also the test equipment
55
and the corresponding test method with which a
56
characteristic within its specification has to be tested
57
and also a frequency means the number of the tests to be performed per shift
58
or per day or per week and needs to be defined
59
and also the corresponding control method and very important once there is a deviation detected on one of the dimensions for instance,
60
a reaction needs to be derived and so behind each of these
61
items that have to be controlled also a reaction plan needs to be added.
62
In case you got all these points already on your control plan format, you can be sure that you are on a pretty good level.
63
What else is important with regard to control plans?
64
You should always be aware about the fact that a control plan is a living file.
65
It is always required to keep it up to date and it never reaches a final level, except the product is going out of production.
66
Once a drawing, a FMEA or the process flow changes, it is important to also update the control plan accordingly.
67
And another important fact that I need to mention is the accord,
68
the accordance of drawings or of the drawing FMEA and control plan with regard to special characteristics.
69
This is a must-have.
70
What does that mean?
71
In case there are special characteristics for a product, they must be marked and highlighted in drawing, FMEA and control plan.
72
This is making sure that these important characteristics are monitored with a high focus
73
and the product can never be failing with regard to these.
74
So, that's it.
75
I hope you got a rough introduction into control plans.
