Lección 68 · Etapa 6: Patrones verbales
Verbo + -ing
IntermedioVerb + -ing
Forma y uso
enjoy, keep, stop…
| Estructura | Ejemplo | |
|---|---|---|
| Afirmativa | verbo + -ing | I enjoy cooking. |
| Negativa (verbo principal) | don't / doesn't / didn't + verbo + -ing | She doesn't mind waiting. |
| Negativa (segundo verbo) | verbo + not + -ing | He suggested not telling her. |
| Pregunta | do / does / did + S + verbo + -ing? | Do you mind sitting here? |
| Otros tiempos | kept / has finished / will avoid + -ing | It kept raining all day. |
1. Gustar, disgustar, no importar: enjoy, (not) mind, fancy (= tener ganas de — británico, informal), can't stand, dislike

Do you mind sitting at the back?
¿Te importa sentarte atrás?
I can't stand waiting in long queues.
No soporto esperar en filas largas.
Do you fancy getting a bubble tea after class?
2. Terminar, dejar de, seguir, posponer: finish, stop, quit, give up, keep (on), go on, carry on, put off, postpone, delay
Have you finished using the laptop?
¿Ya terminaste de usar la laptop?
It kept raining the whole weekend.
My uncle gave up smoking last year.
We put off booking the hotel, and now everything is full.
3. Evitar, arriesgarse, extrañar, no poder evitar: avoid, risk, miss, resist, can't help
I try to avoid driving during rush hour.
Don't risk losing your photos — back them up.
I really miss eating my mum's cooking.
I couldn't help laughing at his joke.
No pude evitar reírme con su chiste.
4. Considerar, sugerir, admitir, practicar: consider, imagine, suggest, recommend, admit, deny, mention, practise (ortografía americana: practice)
Have you ever considered working abroad?
Lan suggested meeting at the cafe near the station.

- Negativa: pon not justo antes de la forma -ing: She suggested not telling anyone yet.
- Verbo + persona + -ing: I can't imagine my dad dancing. / Sorry to keep you waiting. / Do you mind me sitting here? (más formal: my sitting)
- keep / keep on + -ing = hacer algo una y otra vez, a menudo con fastidio: My laptop keeps freezing.
- Con admit, deny puedes usar having + participio para subrayar que la acción ocurrió antes, pero normalmente basta con la forma -ing: He denied taking the money. = He denied having taken the money.
- suggest, recommend, admit, deny también admiten una oración con that: Lan suggested (that) we meet at the cafe (en inglés británico también: we should meet). Pero nunca “suggested us to meet”.
- stop y go on también pueden ir con to + verbo, pero cambia el significado; mira la lección “-ing o to: remember, forget, stop, try, need”.
4.¿-ing o to + verbo?
I enjoy swimming, but today I want to stay at home.
We're considering moving to Da Nang. We plan to go in May.
Estamos pensando en mudarnos a Da Nang. Planeamos ir en mayo.
He avoided answering at first, then refused to say anything.
I don't mind helping. I've already agreed to help on Saturday.
No me importa ayudar.
5.Errores comunes
