रूप और प्रयोग
don't have to / don't need to / needn't + क्रिया — कोई काम ज़रूरी नहीं है
1.रूप (Form)
यह कहने के लिए कि कोई काम ज़रूरी नहीं है (आप कर सकते हैं, पर करने की ज़रूरत नहीं), don't have to, don't need to या needn't + मूल रूप इस्तेमाल करें।

needn't modal की तरह काम करता है (न -s, न to): He needn't come। सामान्य क्रिया need के साथ to और do आते हैं: He doesn't need to come। दोनों को न मिलाएँ (needn't to नहीं, doesn't need come नहीं)।
2.इसका प्रयोग कब करें
1. कोई काम आपकी मर्ज़ी पर है — चाहें तो करें
You don't have to come with me. I can go alone.
आपको मेरे साथ आने की ज़रूरत नहीं है। मैं अकेले जा सकता हूँ।
It's Sunday tomorrow, so I don't have to get up early.
कल रविवार है, तो मुझे जल्दी उठने की ज़रूरत नहीं।
2. हालात की वजह से किसी को कोई काम नहीं करना पड़ता
Thu doesn't have to pay rent. She lives with her parents.
थू को किराया नहीं देना पड़ता। वह अपने माता-पिता के साथ रहती है।
The test is open-book, so you don't need to learn the dates by heart.
टेस्ट ओपन-बुक है, इसलिए आपको तारीख़ें रटने की ज़रूरत नहीं।
3. किसी से कहना कि तकलीफ़ न करे — विनम्र और दोस्ताना
You don't have to bring anything. Just come!
कुछ लाने की ज़रूरत नहीं है। बस आ जाइए!
You needn't worry. Everything is ready.
चिंता करने की ज़रूरत नहीं। सब कुछ तैयार है।
You don't have to shout. I can hear you.
चिल्लाने की ज़रूरत नहीं है। मुझे सुनाई दे रहा है। (असल मतलब: प्लीज़ चिल्लाना बंद करो)
4. पूछना कि कोई काम ज़रूरी है या नहीं
Do I have to bring my passport? — No, you don't.
क्या मुझे अपना पासपोर्ट लाना होगा? — नहीं, ज़रूरत नहीं।
Do we need to book? — No, you don't need to. Just walk in.
क्या हमें बुकिंग करनी होगी? — नहीं, ज़रूरत नहीं। सीधे आ जाइए।
3.Don't have to या mustn't?
ये देखने में मिलते-जुलते हैं, पर इनका मतलब बिल्कुल अलग है:

यहाँ गाड़ी खड़ी करना मना है। यह जगह सिर्फ़ एम्बुलेंस के लिए है।
झटपट जाँच: अगर आप “…पर चाहें तो कर सकते हैं” जोड़ सकते हैं, तो don't have to लगाएँ। अगर मतलब “मना है” है, तो mustn't लगाएँ।
4.भूतकाल की बात
भूतकाल में didn't have to या didn't need to इस्तेमाल करें: यह ज़रूरी नहीं था।
The bus was almost empty, so we didn't have to stand.
बस लगभग ख़ाली थी, इसलिए हमें खड़ा नहीं होना पड़ा।
Lan didn't need to cook — her mum had made dinner.
लान को खाना नहीं बनाना पड़ा — उसकी मम्मी ने डिनर बना दिया था।
अगर कोई काम किया गया लेकिन बाद में पता चला कि ज़रूरी नहीं था, तो British English में needn't have + past participle आ सकता है। रोज़ की बोलचाल में बहुत से लोग बस didn't need to कहते हैं।
Oh, you needn't have bought milk — I got some this morning.
अरे, आपको दूध लाने की ज़रूरत नहीं थी — मैं आज सुबह ले आया था। (आप लाए, पर ज़रूरत नहीं थी)
5.आम गलतियाँ
You mustn't pay for the drinks. They're free.You don't have to pay for the drinks. They're free.
ज़रूरी नहीं → don't have to; mustn't का मतलब है मना है।
He don't have to work on Saturdays.He doesn't have to work on Saturdays.
he/she/it → doesn't।

doesn't के बाद have आता है, has नहीं।
