the -est / the most … — समूह में सबसे ऊपर या नीचे
1.रूप (Form)
Superlative तीन या उससे ज़्यादा के समूह में से सबसे ऊपर (या सबसे नीचे) वाले को चुनता है। छोटे विशेषण: the + -est; लंबे विशेषण: the most + विशेषण। स्पेलिंग के नियम comparative जैसे ही हैं (पाठ “Comparatives” देखें)।

the याद रखें: the tallest, the best — सीखने वाले अक्सर इसे छोड़ देते हैं। और comparative की तरह, एक ही चुनें: -est या most, दोनों नहीं (the most tallest नहीं)।

1. समूह में सबसे ऊपर (तीन या ज़्यादा)
Sunday is the busiest day of the week at our café.
हमारे कैफ़े में रविवार हफ़्ते का सबसे व्यस्त दिन होता है।

2. सबसे नीचे: the least + विशेषण
Walking is the least expensive way to get around.
पैदल चलना घूमने-फिरने का सबसे सस्ता तरीका है।
3. सबसे अच्छों में से एक: one of the + superlative + बहुवचन संज्ञा
Hoi An is one of the most beautiful towns in Vietnam.
होई आन वियतनाम के सबसे ख़ूबसूरत शहरों में से एक है।
She's one of the best students in the class.
वह क्लास के सबसे अच्छे विद्यार्थियों में से एक है।
4. दूसरा, तीसरा…: the second / the third + superlative
Who got the second highest score in the class?
क्लास में दूसरे सबसे ज़्यादा अंक किसके आए?
5. संबंधसूचक शब्द के साथ the हटा दें: my, your, Minh's… + superlative
Nga is my oldest friend.
ङा मेरी सबसे पुरानी दोस्त है।
This is Minh's best score so far.
यह अब तक का मिन्ह का सबसे अच्छा स्कोर है।
3.Comparative या superlative?

जब सिर्फ़ दो हों, तो सावधानी से लिखते समय the + comparative + of the two इस्तेमाल होता है (the taller of the two); बोलचाल में बहुत से लोग फिर भी superlative बोलते हैं। Oldest हर चीज़ के लिए चलता है; eldest सिर्फ़ परिवार के लोगों के लिए है (my eldest son), और वहाँ भी oldest ठीक है।
This hotel is cheaper than that one, but the hostel is the cheapest.
यह होटल उस वाले से सस्ता है, पर हॉस्टल सबसे सस्ता है।
My eldest brother lives in Da Nang.
मेरा सबसे बड़ा भाई दा नांग में रहता है।
4.Superlative के बाद: in, of, ever
Superlative के बाद अक्सर ऐसे शब्द आते हैं जो बताते हैं “किसमें सबसे ऊपर”: in + जगह या समूह, of + संख्या या समय की अवधि, या ever वाला उपवाक्य (present perfect)। विस्तार से जानने के लिए पाठ “Superlative + ever / in / of” देखें।
Minh is the tallest boy in the class.
मिन्ह क्लास का सबसे लंबा लड़का है।
This is the cheapest of the three phones.
तीनों फ़ोन में से यह सबसे सस्ता है।
That's the funniest joke I've ever heard.
यह सबसे मज़ेदार चुटकुला है जो मैंने कभी सुना है।
5.आम गलतियाँ
He is the most tallest boy in the class.He is the tallest boy in the class.
इसमें पहले से -est है, इसलिए most नहीं।
Minh is best player on our team.Minh is the best player on our team.
Superlative के साथ the चाहिए।
This is the more beautiful beach I've ever seen.This is the most beautiful beach I've ever seen.
Superlative → most, more नहीं।
Da Nang is one of the cleanest city in Vietnam.Da Nang is one of the cleanest cities in Vietnam.
one of the के बाद बहुवचन संज्ञा लगाएँ।
This is the most cheap hotel in the area.This is the cheapest hotel in the area.
छोटे विशेषणों में -est जुड़ता है।
Nam is the taller boy in our class.Nam is the tallest boy in our class.
क्लास में दो से ज़्यादा लोग होते हैं → superlative।
