Nomi numerabili e non numerabili
PrincipianteCountable and uncountable nouns
Forma e uso
a car, two cars vs water, advice, information — quali nomi prendono a/an e la -s del plurale
| Numerabili | Non numerabili | |
|---|---|---|
| Esempi | a book, an egg, a chair, a job | water, rice, money, music, advice |
| a / an | sì: a book | no (non a water) |
| Plurale in -s | sì: two books | no (non rices) |
| Con i numeri | three eggs | serve un'unità di misura: three bottles of water |
| some / any | some eggs, any eggs | some rice, any rice |
| Per chiedere la quantità | How many …? | How much …? |
| Verbo | The eggs are fresh. | The rice is ready. |
How many eggs do we need?
Quante uova ci servono?
How much money do you have?
Quanti soldi hai?
Come in italiano (“una ciotola di riso”), l'inglese usa una parola di misura con i sostantivi non numerabili (a bowl of rice, a piece of advice); i numerabili vanno direttamente dopo a/an o un numero: a table, two chairs.
2.Sostantivi non numerabili comuni
- Cibi, bevande e materiali: water, milk, coffee, rice, bread, meat, sugar, cheese, paper
- Insiemi di cose visti come un tutto: money, furniture, luggage / baggage, traffic, homework, housework
- Idee e concetti astratti: advice, information, news, help, music, weather, fun, work, progress

Mi puoi dare qualche consiglio?

Per parlare di un singolo elemento, usa un sostantivo numerabile con un significato simile:
| Non numerabile | Numerabile |
|---|---|
| advice | a tip, a suggestion |
| luggage | a bag, a suitcase |
| furniture | a chair, a table, a sofa |
| work | a job, a task |
| travel | a trip, a journey |
Usa una parola di misura + of: a piece of, a glass of, a cup of, a bottle of, a bowl of, a slice of, a loaf of, a kilo of, a bar of. Per più di uno, la -s va sulla parola di misura: two cups of tea.
Let me give you a piece of advice.
Lascia che ti dia un consiglio.
