Lezione 13 · Tappa 1: Le basi
Il past simple (verbi irregolari)
PrincipiantePast simple (irregular verbs)
Forma e uso
went, saw, took…
| Esempi | |
|---|---|
| Affermativa | I went home early. |
| Negativa | I didn't go home early. |
| Domanda | Did you go home early? · Where did you go? |
| Risposta breve | Yes, I did. / No, I didn't. |
Appena c'è did / didn't, il verbo torna alla forma base: I didn't go, Did you see…? Non “didn't went” o “did you saw”.
2.Verbi irregolari comuni
| Schema | Forma base → passato (V2) |
|---|---|
| -ought / -aught (si pronunciano entrambi /ɔːt/) | buy → bought, bring → brought, think → thought, fight → fought, catch → caught, teach → taught |
| finiscono in -t | sleep → slept, keep → kept, feel → felt, leave → left, lose → lost, send → sent, spend → spent, build → built |
| ee / ea → e | meet → met, feed → fed, lead → led, read → read (si pronuncia /red/) |
| la vocale diventa a | begin → began, drink → drank, sing → sang, swim → swam, sit → sat, give → gave, come → came, eat → ate |
| la vocale diventa o | break → broke, choose → chose, speak → spoke, steal → stole, wake → woke, drive → drove, ride → rode, write → wrote, get → got, forget → forgot |
| finiscono in -ew | know → knew, grow → grew, throw → threw, blow → blew, fly → flew, draw → drew |
| diventano -oo- | take → took, shake → shook, stand → stood, understand → understood |
| non cambiano | cut → cut, put → put, let → let, hit → hit, cost → cost, shut → shut |
| completamente diversi: vanno imparati a memoria | go → went, be → was / were, do → did, have → had, make → made, see → saw, say → said, hear → heard, find → found, tell → told, run → ran, fall → fell, win → won |
Ogni sera prova a raccontare la tua giornata in 5–6 frasi al passato: I got up at six, I had noodles, I took the bus…
3.V2 o V3? E le coppie che si confondono
| Forma base | Passato (V2) | Participio passato (V3) |
|---|---|---|
| go | went | gone |
| see | saw | seen |
| do | did | done |
| eat | ate | eaten |
| write | wrote | written |
| drink | drank | drunk |
| begin | began | begun |
Il past simple usa solo la colonna centrale (V2): I saw her yesterday (non: I seen her), We went home (non: We gone home). La colonna V3 va dopo have / has / had e nella forma passiva: vedi la lezione “Present perfect”.
I bought some mangoes at the market and brought them to the party.
(buy → bought; bring → brought)

I felt dizzy and nearly fell over.
(feel → felt; fall → fell)
I read that book last summer.
Ho letto quel libro l'estate scorsa.
4.Domande e negative
Esattamente come tutti gli altri verbi al past simple: did / didn't + forma base. La forma irregolare sparisce appena c'è did.
I didn't sleep well last night.
Stanotte non ho dormito bene. (non: didn't slept)
Did you take your medicine?
Hai preso la medicina?
What did she say?
Che cosa ha detto?
How did you find out?
Come l'hai scoperto?
Eccezione: quando who / what è il soggetto (la persona o la cosa che compie l'azione), non c'è did e il verbo è nella forma V2: Who told you? What happened?
5.Errori comuni

go è irregolare: went.
She didn't took the bus.She didn't take the bus.
Forma base dopo didn't.
