6
Mindfulness.
7
Joy is born from mindfulness.
8
The mechanism is simple.
9
When you breathe in mindfully, breathing in, I know I am breathing in.
10
I focus my attention on my in-breath.
11
I stop the thinking, I just become aware of my in-breath.
12
My in-breath is the only object of my mind.
13
I focus all my attention on my in-breath, I am concentrated.
14
And suddenly I discover I'm alive, that is insight.
15
It's very clear.
16
When you breathe in mindfully you know that you are alive because someone who is already dead does not breathe in anymore.
17
So just breathe in mindfully you get the insight that you are alive.
18
And you know something, to be alive is the most wonderful thing.
19
To be alive, to be still alive, is the most wonderful thing.
20
So breathing in, I know I'm alive.
21
I feel I am alive, I have a body.
22
And I can get in touch with the many wonders of life like the sunshine, the rain, the vegetation, the flowers, the river.
23
So that kind of awareness, that kind of insight can help you to generate a feeling of joy right away.
24
Joy is born from mindfulness, concentration and insight.
25
When you come home to the here and the now you recognize the fact that there are so many conditions of happiness that are already available.
26
More than enough for you to be joyful and happy.
27
If you take a piece of paper and write them down; the conditions of happiness that you already have; that is an exercise.
28
Sitting at the foot of a plum tree, you write down all the conditions of happiness that you already have.
29
I don't think that one page is enough.
30
I don't think that two pages are enough.
31
Three pages are not enough, either.
32
You have more than enough conditions in order to be joyful and happy.
33
And mindfulness helps you to recognize these conditions.
34
And happiness can be born right away, joy, also.
35
And that is the mechanism of joy and happiness.
36
Mindfulness, awareness of the conditions of happiness that are already available to you in the here and the now.
