Noun + noun
a bus driver, a ten-minute walk, a coffee cup — 한 명사가 다른 명사를 꾸밈
|---|---|---|
| bus | driver | a bus driver |
| phone | number | a phone number |
| city | centre | the city centre |
| apple | juice | apple juice |
| traffic | lights | traffic lights |
| birthday | party | a birthday party |
한국어의 “버스 기사”, “시내 중심”과 마찬가지로 영어에서도 중심 명사가 맨 뒤에 옵니다: a bus driver, the city centre, car keys.
My uncle is a taxi driver.
Can I have your phone number?
Turn left at the traffic lights.
There's a new shoe shop near my house.
I need a new toothbrush.
Where's the ticket office?
- 예외: 항상 -s로 끝나는 명사는 -s를 그대로 둡니다: a clothes shop, a sports car, a savings account
- 명사 1이 -ing 형태일 수도 있습니다(무엇을 위한 것인지): a swimming pool, a washing machine, a waiting room
- 명사를 세 개 이상 이어 쓸 수도 있습니다: a hotel reception desk, a table tennis ball
3.숫자 + 명사: a ten-minute walk
숫자 + 단위가 명사 앞에서 명사를 꾸밀 때는 단위를 단수로 쓰고 하이픈으로 연결합니다: a ten-minute walk, a two-hour meeting, a five-year-old boy, a three-day trip.
|---|---|
| The walk takes ten minutes. | It's a ten-minute walk. |
| The meeting lasted two hours. | We had a two-hour meeting. |
| My son is five years old. | I have a five-year-old son. |
| The trip is three days long. | It's a three-day trip. |

She found a 50,000-dong note in her pocket.
-'s를 쓸 수도 있습니다(「-'s일까 of일까」 레슨 참고): a ten-minute walk = ten minutes' walk.
4.a coffee cup일까 a cup of coffee일까?
|---|---|
| a coffee cup | a cup of coffee |
| a water bottle | a bottle of water |
| a wine glass | a glass of wine |
| a matchbox | a box of matches |
| a toolbox | a box of tools |
