1
I know it's weird to eat at your own restaurant, but this is really good.
2
Swahdi krap.
3
Hi, my name is Bung Bunnag.
4
I'm a co -owner of Mahaniyom and Mirai Bar in Boston.
5
Today, I'm gonna show you what I eat when I have a perfect day in Boston.
6
So the first stop, we're gonna go to Rubado in Quincy.
7
This is where I start my day.
8
So I always grab the breakfast after I drop my kids from school.
9
Let's check out inside.
10
Hey man!
11
How you doing?
12
How are you?
13
Good, good.
14
What do we have?
15
Well, let's start with the cha chubao, fried chicken bolo bau the lava egg yolk, Hong Kong French toast, that's my favorite.
16
Okay.
17
Yep.
18
And let's throw in the pork and century egg congee.
19
All right, that's a good one.
20
That's the traditional route.
21
Can I get a yunjang? Of course.
22
Hot or cold?
23
Hot with the milk and sugar.
24
All right, man.
25
Here is the order.
26
We got your faves, man.
27
We got the fried chicken bolabao.
28
We do a kind of unique marinade and mix tofu marinated, our slaw, tasty sauce, classic bolabao, French toast.
29
This is the lava egg yolk with the molten custard inside.
30
It kind of oozes out as you go, condensed milk and cookie crumbs on top.
31
Your favorite, your tasseu bao, kind of a twist on a classic.
32
We have some caramelized onions in there and everything.
33
And then the congee with the century egg and pork, That's like the classic Cantonese Chinese dish.
34
So, yeah, it's yummy.
35
Can you tell me a little bit about your background and how you start the Rubairo?
36
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
37
This space here was my mom's bakery for 20 years before I took over.
38
I was doing the chef thing thing for a while.
39
And then it was about how do we kind of take my experience as a chef
40
and my identity as a Chinese American and put it into a menu.
41
And this is kind of what came out of it.
42
You know, it's really meant to be kind of undeniably delicious, but also representative of, you know, I think YM as a chef,
43
but also as a person.
44
The name actually came from, so my mom had a rock band.
45
It was named Contempo.
46
And when she came to this bakery and she opened, she named it Contempo Bakery, but it's for contemporary tempo.
47
So Roboto is the musical term for change of tempo.
48
Okay.
49
So we wanted to kind of honor the legacy of my mom, but also, you know, I think put something new into the world.
50
Man, I'm hungry now.
51
Yeah, all right.
52
You enjoy.
53
Thank you.
54
Thank you.
55
All right, we have a lot of stuff here.
56
So, start with the bolo bao.
57
The pork is so good.
58
The bao is so fluffy, so soft.
59
And the char choux inside is like really, really tasty.
60
So, the next one, I have the pork and century egg congee.
61
And I always put everything on top so like a scallion, cilantro and white pepper.
62
So the first thing you gotta mix it all up.
63
It's just like so good because like it's so easy to eat.
64
And the century egg, it's like a preserved egg.
65
Some people call a thousand years old egg.
66
And this one is when you need some sweet.
67
This is it.
68
This is it.
69
It's a lava egg yolk french toast.
70
The egg custard is like delicious the condensed milk on top, the crunchy of the toast.
71
Mmm, very good, really good.
72
And this is the Yunyan, it's a Hong Kong style drink that is mixed between the black tea and the coffee.
73
It's like a boba tea and then you get a coffee too.
74
So it's get me going in the morning.
75
The last but not least, really, really good fried chicken sandwich.
76
What I like to do is I always like squeeze it a little bit.
77
You know, try to get this all in one bite.
78
The sweet on top is so good.
79
The crumb, the crunchy of the chicken, the sauce.
80
Very, really good.
81
Alright, I have a lot of things to finish here.
82
I'll see you at my next spot for lunch.
83
We are here in Sofa in an Austin location.
84
This is the second stop that I always come and grab lunch.
85
Let's go check inside.
86
Hello.
87
Hi, good morning.
88
How are you doing?
89
I'm good.
90
How are you?
91
Thank you for having me.
92
Can I start with the morning blunt, the cornbread, and the tahini brown water croissant?
93
For lunch, can I get two of the sausage pita and chai tea hot, please?
94
I'm so excited.
95
I got an opportunity to meet
96
Chef Amber over here.
97
She's going to show us how she make the sausage pita and show us a little bit inside on the kitchen.
98
All right, so we have our house -made yufka here.
99
We make this every day.
100
And then this is our feta butter.
101
That's the base of the sandwich here.
102
And it's butter, feta, a little bit of Hungarian wax peppers that have been roasted and pureed, and a little bit of smoked salt.
103
And then our sausage meat, which is a mix of beef and pork, tomato,
104
oregano, coriander, and a little bit of orange and then it kind of gets cooked way down until it's nice and soft.
105
Looks so good already.
106
Yes.
107
So this is like a Turkish flatbread
108
so it's supposed to be really really thin and
109
when you fold it up you get like a little bit of these layers.
110
Chopped pepperoncinis and kalamata olive.
111
Every time I come in I order five of them
112
because I gotta get it eat it over here
113
and then bring it home and eat it for the next day so this is one of the best.
114
This is so exciting.
115
So it's a lot of food, but I'm going to start with my favorite sausage pita.
116
Beef and pork, the meat, the olive and a little spicy.
117
And the pita.
118
This is hands down my favorite.
119
It's so good.
120
And this is also the drink.
121
Just a regular chai latte, but they blend the spice, the chai themselves so it's like it's
122
so good this morning bun so what they do is they use like a croissant dough
123
and I just like put in the tin top with the spice
124
and the orange the crunchy so good I have a lot of stuff to finish
125
but we're gonna save some for my team and next we're gonna go to my restaurant Mahaniyong Hi guys,
126
so this is a very exciting one because you are at my place called Mahaniyom Thai Tapas Bar in Buk Lai.
127
You want to come check it out?
128
Let's go!
129
So I'm gonna make today, it's called Mek Kala Martini.
130
It's basically like a dirty martini.
131
I'm gonna start off with the saline solution, dry vermouth, pineapple infused condenser gin,
132
and this is my martini
133
so i want to show you a fan favorite from Mahaniam okay i'm gonna start with a crab curry
134
so this is a southern thai style curry so we have like a vermicelli with the bean sprouts,
135
Thai basil and with the curry that we make in -house.
136
I know it's really good to eat at your own restaurant but this is really good.
137
Always when you come to Mahaniam you gotta order Nang Gai Thot which is like a fried chicken skin.
138
Next one we have pomelo salad or yum somo.
139
It's a fruit salad that's still spicy and super tasty. So refreshing.
140

143

166
It's a little bit early, but we got you.
167
Yes.
168
I did actually took the liberty and get a couple more items.
169
I know usually you guys with a big crew, you get a little more family style set up.
170
So we're gonna do the front strap, the wings, and a side fried pickles.
171
Usually that's how we accommodate your whole crew.
172

176
Oh fantastic.
177
Well the way we're doing it's been like the same same recipe for the past 15 years now.
178
We do the Russian dressing pickle brine, caramelized onions,
179
white mustard cheese and I don't want to give away the recipe of the blend of the jug
180
but there's no trimmers on it so.
181

Our beautiful beer mac and cheese, fried pickles is a great setting and our bedded buffalo wings which are fantastic.
