บอกจุดประสงค์: in order to / so that

ถ้าจะบอกจุดประสงค์ — ว่าทำไมใครทำอะไร — ภาษาอังกฤษมีหลายทางเลือก สิ่งสำคัญคือสิ่งที่ตามมา: กริยา อนุประโยค (ประธาน + กริยา) หรือคำนาม

💡ข้อผิดพลาดที่เจอบ่อยมากคือใช้ for + กริยา บอกจุดประสงค์ (I came here for learn English) ถ้าตามด้วยกริยา ให้ใช้ to / in order to: I came here to learn English ส่วน for ตามด้วยคำนาม: I came here for the course

1. To + กริยา — ใช้บ่อยที่สุด โดยเฉพาะในภาษาพูด

• I called the shop to check if they had my size.

  ฉันโทรไปที่ร้านเพื่อเช็กว่ามีไซซ์ของฉันไหม

• Why are you learning English? — To get a better job.

  ทำไมคุณเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ — เพื่อจะได้งานที่ดีกว่า

2. In order to / so as to — เน้นจุดประสงค์ ทางการกว่า ใช้บ่อยในงานเขียน อีเมลงาน และการนำเสนอ so as to ทางการกว่าอีกนิด

• Minh moved to Hanoi in order to find work.

  มินห์ย้ายไปฮานอยเพื่อหางานทำ

• Staff must wear gloves so as to protect their hands.

  พนักงานต้องสวมถุงมือเพื่อป้องกันมือ

3. ปฏิเสธ: in order not to / so as not to + กริยา — not วางหน้า to

• I set two alarms in order not to miss my flight.

  ฉันตั้งนาฬิกาปลุกสองเรือนเพื่อจะได้ไม่ตกเครื่อง

• She whispered so as not to wake her parents.

💡ใช้ not to เฉย ๆ บอกจุดประสงค์ฟังแปร่ง (I left early not to miss the bus) ให้พูดว่า so as not to, in order not to หรือ so that … won't / wouldn't

ใช้ so that เมื่อตามด้วยประธาน + กริยา — โดยเฉพาะเมื่อจุดประสงค์เกี่ยวกับคนอื่น หรือต้องใช้ can / will จุดประสงค์ในปัจจุบันหรืออนาคต → can, will (หรือ Present Simple) จุดประสงค์ในอดีต → could, would

• I'll send you a map so that you can find the house easily.

  For + -ing บอกว่าสิ่งของใช้ทำอะไร ไม่ได้บอกว่าทำไมคนถึงทำ

  So that + ประธาน + can/will…

• ✗We left at 5 a.m. so as not miss the boat.

  ✓We left at 5 a.m. so as not to miss the boat.
