义务:must / have to / need to
初级Obligation: must / have to / need to
1.形式
表示必须做某事有三种说法:must、have to、need to——后面都接动词原形。Must 是情态动词;have to 和 need to 的用法和普通动词一样。
| must | have to | need to | |
|---|---|---|---|
I / she must go. | I have to go. · She has to go. | I need to go. · She needs to go. |
| 否定式 | mustn't go(= 不许做) | don't / doesn't have to go(= 不必) | don't / doesn't need to go(= 不必) |
| 疑问式 | Must I go?(少用) | Do I have to go? · Does she have to go? | Do I need to go? |
| 过去时 | —(用 had to) | had to go | needed to go |
Must 永远不加 -s、不加 to、不用 do:She must go。Have to / need to 正好相反:She has to go。Does she need to go?
I have to wear a uniform at work.
Linh has to take two buses to get to school.
Do you have to work on Sundays?
It's late. I must go.
I must call my grandma this weekend.
You must try the coconut coffee here — it's amazing!
All visitors must sign in at the front desk.
Passengers must keep their bags with them at all times.
My phone is almost dead. I need to charge it.
Do we need to book a table, or can we just walk in?
5. have got to——和 have to 一样,在非正式口语中非常常见
Sorry, I've got to go — my bus is leaving.
在美式英语中,表示义务的 must 听起来相当强硬、正式;美国人通常说 have to 或 have got to(gotta)。
3.其他时态:用 have to
|---|---|
I had to wait an hour for the bus. |
Prices go up next month, so we'll have to pay more. |
| Might have to | We might have to sell the car. |
I've had to wear glasses since I was ten. |
I hate having to get up in the dark. |
4.Mustn't 和 don't have to 意思完全不同
|---|---|---|
| mustn't | 别做——这是不允许的 | You mustn't smoke in here. It's a hospital. |
| don't have to / don't need to | 没有必要——你想做也可以 | You don't have to bring food. There's plenty. |
You mustn't touch the paintings.
You don't have to take your shoes off. Come in!
mustn't = 禁止;don't have to = 可做可不做。不要把两者弄混。另见“无需:don't have to / needn't”一课。

must 后面不加 to。

he/she/it → has to。

must 不和 do 连用;要问 Do you have to…?
