„It is said that…“

Fortgeschritten

“It is said that…”

Form & Gebrauch

it is said/believed that…, be thought/known to… — wiedergeben, was man sagt oder denkt

1.Zwei Muster

AusgangssatzMuster 1: It is said that…Muster 2: … is said to…
People say that he is very rich.It is said that he is very rich.He is said to be very rich.
People believe that the fire started in the kitchen. It is believed that the fire started in the kitchen. The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen.
Experts expect that prices will rise.It is expected that prices will rise.Prices are expected to rise.

Häufige Verben: say, think, believe, know, consider, expect, report, understand, allege, estimate. Bei consider kann to be wegfallen: He is considered (to be) the best player.

Für „man sagt“ nimmst du im Aktiv People say that… oder They say… („One says…“ klingt sehr steif) — aber nicht „People are said that…“.

2.To-Verb oder to have + V3?

gleichzeitig / allgemein gültigto + VerbShe is said to speak five languages.
gerade im Gangeto be + V-ingThe climbers are thought to be sheltering in a cave.
früher passiertto have + V3He is believed to have left the country.
wird passieren (oft mit expect)to + VerbThe new bridge is expected to open next year.

  • More than 300 people are known to have attended the meeting.

3.Die Zeitform des Berichtsverbs

is said / is believed = Die Leute sagen oder glauben es jetzt. was said / was believed = Die Leute sagten oder glaubten es früher (vielleicht heute nicht mehr). Auch das Present Perfect ist möglich: It has been reported that…

  • The Earth was once believed to be flat.

Früher glaubte man, die Erde sei flach.

  • The ship was thought to have sunk in a storm.

  • It has been reported that two people were injured.

4.There is said to be…, be supposed to

Mit there: There is said to be… = It is said that there is… Im lockeren Gespräch benutzt man diese Muster selten; man sagt They say…, Apparently… oder be supposed to (= man sagt).

  • There are thought to be fewer than a hundred of these birds left in the wild.

(umgangssprachlich = man sagt)

  • They say the shop on the corner is closing down.

Siehe die Lektion „Be supposed to / about to / likely to“.
