Zukunft mit „will“

Anfänger

Future with “will”

Form & Gebrauch

will + Verb – eine Entscheidung, ein Versprechen oder eine Vorhersage

1.Form

will + Grundform — für jedes Subjekt gleich, kein -s, kein to. Beim Sprechen wird es meist zu 'll verkürzt; die Verneinung ist won't (= will not).

Beispiel
BejahtI'll / you'll / she'll / we'll / they'll help.
VerneintI won't (= will not) be late.
FrageWill you be home tonight? · What time will they arrive?
KurzantwortYes, I will. / No, I won't.

Vorsicht, falscher Freund: Englisches will heißt nicht „wollen“ — „ich will“ ist I want. Und nimm will nicht für jeden Gedanken an die Zukunft: „I'll go to Da Lat tomorrow“ klingt nach einer spontanen Entscheidung; ist das Ticket schon gebucht, sag I'm going to Da Lat tomorrow. Hör außerdem genau hin: won't /wəʊnt/ (US /woʊnt/) ist nicht want /wɒnt/ (US /wɑːnt/).

2.Wann du es benutzt

1. Entscheidungen, die du im Moment des Sprechens triffst

  • It's cold in here. I'll close the window.

Es ist kalt hier drin. Ich mache das Fenster zu.

  • Hmm, what looks good… I'll have the beef noodles, please.

Hm, was klingt gut … Ich nehme die Nudeln mit Rindfleisch, bitte.

2. Angebote, Zusagen und Versprechen

  • That box looks heavy. I'll carry it for you.

Die Kiste sieht schwer aus. Ich trage sie für dich.

  • Can you pick me up at the station? — Sure, I'll be there at six.

Kannst du mich am Bahnhof abholen? — Klar, ich bin um sechs da.

  • I won't tell anyone, I promise.

    Ich verrate es niemandem, versprochen.

3. Jemanden um etwas bitten: Will you…?

  • Will you hold my bag for a second?

Hältst du mal kurz meine Tasche? (umgangssprachlich; höflicher: Could you…?)

4. Vorhersagen, Meinungen und Tatsachen über die Zukunft — oft mit I think, I'm sure, probably, I expect

  • I think you'll love this film.

Ich glaube, dieser Film wird dir gefallen.

  • Don't worry, I'm sure you'll pass.

    Keine Sorge, du bestehst bestimmt.

  • My sister will be 18 next month.

Meine Schwester wird nächsten Monat 18.

5. Won't = sich weigern (bei Menschen und sogar bei Maschinen)

  • My little brother won't eat vegetables.

Mein kleiner Bruder will kein Gemüse essen.

  • The car won't start. I think the battery's dead.

Das Auto springt nicht an. Ich glaube, die Batterie ist leer.

3.Will mit I think, probably…

  • probably, definitely, certainly stehen nach will, aber vor won't: It'll probably rain. / It probably won't rain.
  • Für eine verneinte Meinung ist I don't think … will üblicher als I think … won't: I don't think she'll come.
  • Um nach einer Meinung zu fragen: Do you think it'll rain? What do you think will happen?
  • Von sehr sicher bis wenig sicher: I'm sure … will → I think / I expect … will → … will probably → I doubt … will (= wahrscheinlich nicht).

4.Shall I…? / Shall we…?

Shall steht hauptsächlich in Fragen mit I / we, um Hilfe anzubieten oder zu fragen, was der andere möchte. Im britischen Englisch ist es üblich; Amerikaner sagen öfter Should I…? oder Do you want me to…?

  • It's hot in here. Shall I open the window?

Es ist heiß hier drin. Soll ich das Fenster aufmachen?

  • What time shall we meet?

Um wie viel Uhr treffen wir uns?

Biete Hilfe nicht mit will I…? an: Shall I help you? (nicht: Will I help you?). Vorschläge mit Shall we…? behandelt die Lektion „Vorschläge“.

5.Wann du will nicht benutzt

Will passt zu Dingen, die du beim Sprechen entscheidest oder einschätzt. Wurde etwas schon vorher beschlossen oder verabredet, nimm going to oder das Present Continuous.

  • Sorry, I can't come on Friday. I'm working late.

Tut mir leid, am Freitag kann ich nicht. Ich arbeite länger. (schon verabredet)

  • I've made up my mind. I'm going to apply for that job.

Ich habe mich entschieden. Ich bewerbe mich auf diese Stelle. (vorher beschlossen)

  • They need a designer? Then I'll apply too!

Sie suchen einen Designer? Dann bewerbe ich mich auch! (gerade eben beschlossen)

Nach when, as soon as, before, after, until und if steht normalerweise das Simple Present, auch wenn es um die Zukunft geht, nicht will: I'll call you when I get home. Siehe die Lektion „Zeitsätze mit Zukunftsbezug“.

6.Typische Fehler

  • She will comes back tomorrow.

    She will come back tomorrow.

    Nach will steht die Grundform.

  • I will to call you later.

    I will call you later.

    Nach will kein to.

  • We willn't be at home on Sunday.

We won't be at home on Sunday.

Die Verneinung von will ist won't.

  • Do you will come to my party?

Will you come to my party?

In Fragen kommt will nach vorn — kein do.

  • I'll text you when I will get home.

I'll text you when I get home.

Nach when steht das Simple Present.

  • Don't worry, I pay you back next week.

Don't worry, I'll pay you back next week.

Ein Versprechen für die Zukunft braucht will.

Beispiele

  • Don't worry, I won't tell anyone your secret.
  • I promise I will call you tonight.
  • In the future, robots will do most of the housework.
  • Will you be at the office tomorrow afternoon?
