Futuro con “will”

Principiante

Future with “will”

Forma e uso

will + verbo — una decisione, una promessa o una previsione

1.Forma

will + forma base: è uguale per tutti i soggetti, senza -s e senza to. Nel parlato di solito si abbrevia in 'll; la negativa è won't (= will not).

Esempio
AffermativaI'll / you'll / she'll / we'll / they'll help.
NegativaI won't (= will not) be late.
DomandaWill you be home tonight? · What time will they arrive?
Risposta breveYes, I will. / No, I won't.

1. Decisioni prese nel momento in cui parli

  • It's cold in here. I'll close the window.

Fa freddo qui dentro. Chiudo la finestra.

  • Hmm, what looks good… I'll have the beef noodles, please.

Mmm, che cosa sembra buono… Prendo i noodles al manzo, grazie.

2. Offerte, accettare di fare qualcosa, promesse

  • That box looks heavy. I'll carry it for you.

Quella scatola sembra pesante. Te la porto io.

  • Can you pick me up at the station? — Sure, I'll be there at six.

Mi vieni a prendere alla stazione? — Certo, sarò lì alle sei.

  • I won't tell anyone, I promise.

3. Chiedere a qualcuno di fare qualcosa: Will you…?

  • Will you hold my bag for a second?

Mi tieni la borsa un attimo? (informale; più cortese: Could you…?)

4. Previsioni, opinioni e fatti futuri, spesso con I think, I'm sure, probably, I expect

  • I think you'll love this film.

Secondo me questo film ti piacerà tantissimo.

  • Don't worry, I'm sure you'll pass.

Non preoccuparti, sono sicuro che passerai.

  • My sister will be 18 next month.

Il mese prossimo mia sorella compirà 18 anni.

  • My little brother won't eat vegetables.

  • The car won't start. I think the battery's dead.

La macchina non parte. Credo che la batteria sia scarica.

3.Will con I think, probably…

  • probably, definitely, certainly vanno dopo will ma prima di won't: It'll probably rain. / It probably won't rain.
  • Per un'opinione negativa, I don't think … will è più comune di I think … won't: I don't think she'll come.
  • Per chiedere un'opinione: Do you think it'll rain? What do you think will happen?
  • Dal più sicuro al meno sicuro: I'm sure … will → I think / I expect … will → … will probably → I doubt … will (= probabilmente no).

4.Shall I…? / Shall we…?

È comune nell'inglese britannico; gli americani dicono più spesso Should I…? o Do you want me to…?

  • It's hot in here. Shall I open the window?

Fa caldo qui dentro. Apro la finestra?

  • What time shall we meet?

    A che ora ci vediamo?

Non offrire aiuto con will I…?: Shall I help you? (non: Will I help you?).

  • Sorry, I can't come on Friday. I'm working late.

Scusa, venerdì non posso venire. Lavoro fino a tardi. (già organizzato)

  • I've made up my mind. I'm going to apply for that job.

Ho deciso. Mi candido per quel lavoro. (deciso prima)

  • They need a designer? Then I'll apply too!

Cercano un designer? Allora mi candido anch'io! (deciso adesso)

Dopo when, as soon as, before, after, until e if di solito si usa il present simple anche per il futuro, non will: I'll call you when I get home.

6.Errori comuni

  • She will comes back tomorrow.

    She will come back tomorrow.

    Forma base dopo will.

  • I will to call you later.

    I will call you later.

    Niente to dopo will.

  • We willn't be at home on Sunday.

We won't be at home on Sunday.

La negativa di will è won't.

  • Do you will come to my party?

Will you come to my party?

Nelle domande will va per primo, senza do.

  • I'll text you when I will get home.

I'll text you when I get home.

    Present simple dopo when.

  • Don't worry, I pay you back next week.

Don't worry, I'll pay you back next week.

Una promessa sul futuro vuole will.

Esempi

  • Don't worry, I won't tell anyone your secret.
  • I promise I will call you tonight.
  • In the future, robots will do most of the housework.
  • Will you be at the office tomorrow afternoon?
