Domande sul soggetto e sull'oggetto
PrincipianteSubject and object questions
Forma e uso
Who called you? vs Who did you call? — quando who/what è il soggetto, niente do/does/did
|---|---|---|
| Lan called Minh. | Who called Minh? — Lan. | Who did Lan call? — Minh. |
| Nam ate my sandwich. | Who ate your sandwich? — Nam. | What did Nam eat? — My sandwich. |
| Mai loves cats. | Who loves cats? — Mai. | What does Mai love? — Cats. |
| The storm damaged the roof. | What damaged the roof? — The storm. | What did the storm damage? — The roof. |
- Domanda sul soggetto: Who / What + verbo (come in una frase affermativa). Niente do / does / did.
- Domanda sull'oggetto: Who / What + do / does / did + soggetto + forma base, come una domanda normale.
Who lives in that big house on the corner?
Chi abita in quella grande casa all'angolo?
What happened? Why is everyone shouting?
Che cosa è successo? Perché urlano tutti?
Who taught you to swim?
Chi ti ha insegnato a nuotare?
Which bus goes to the airport?
Quale autobus va all'aeroporto?
How many people came to the party?
Quante persone sono venute alla festa?
- Lo stesso vale per which / whose / how many + sostantivo quando questo gruppo è il soggetto.
- Who / what come soggetto di solito vogliono il verbo al singolare, anche se la risposta sono più persone: Who wants more rice? (non Who want…?).
- L'ausiliare che appartiene al tempo verbale rimane; semplicemente non aggiungi do / does / did: Who is coming tonight? · Who can help me? · Who has seen my keys?
3.Domande sull'oggetto
Nei tempi semplici l'ausiliare è do / does / did.
Who did you meet at the party?
Chi hai incontrato alla festa?
What did you buy at the market yesterday?
Che cosa hai comprato al mercato ieri?
What does this word mean?
Che cosa vuol dire questa parola?
Who are you waiting for?
Chi stai aspettando?
Who are you talking to? What are you looking at? To whom…? si usa solo nello scritto formale.
4.A confronto
Who told you? — My sister told me.
Chi te l'ha detto? — Me l'ha detto mia sorella. (si chiede chi l'ha detto)
Who did you tell? — I told my sister.
A chi l'hai detto? — L'ho detto a mia sorella. (si chiede chi l'ha sentito)
What made you so angry?
What did you make for dinner?
Che cosa hai preparato per cena?
Chiediti: la parola interrogativa è chi compie l'azione? Se sì (Who called you?), non c'è do / does / did. Se l'azione la compie qualcun altro (Who did you call?), metti do / does / did prima di quella persona.
5.Errori comuni
Who did break the vase?Who broke the vase?

What did happen to your car? What happened to your car?
What è il soggetto: niente did.
Who live next door to you?Who lives next door to you?

Who you are waiting for?Who are you waiting for?

What è il soggetto: niente did.
