초급Prepositions of movement: to / at / in / into
go to work, arrive at / in, get into the car, out of the room — 어디로 가는지 말하기
at / in은 사람이 어디에 있는지(위치)를 나타냅니다. to는 어디로 가는지(목적지)를 나타내며, go, come, walk, drive, fly, travel, move, return 같은 이동 동사 뒤에 씁니다.
| 위치: at / in | 이동: to | |
|---|---|---|
I'm at work. | I go to work by bus. |
She lives in Hue. | She moved to Hue last year. |
The kids are at school. | The kids walk to school. |

한국어에서는 “회사에 있다”와 “회사에 가다”에 똑같이 “에”를 쓰기 때문에 to와 at을 헷갈리기 쉽습니다: “I go at work”는 틀립니다. 어떤 장소를 향해 이동할 때는 to를 쓰세요: go to work, go to the market, go back to my hometown.
2.home, here, there — to 없이
이동 동사 뒤의 home에는 to를 붙이지 않습니다: go home, come home, get home, walk home. go there, come here, go abroad, go downstairs도 마찬가지입니다. 하지만 특정한 사람의 집에는 to가 필요합니다: go to Lan's house.
I'm tired. Let's go home.
(go to home은 틀림)
What time did you get home last night?

Stay at home if you feel sick.
(그곳에 있음: at home)
3.arrive in / at과 get to
도시나 나라에는 arrive in, 건물이나 공항·역·호텔·파티 같은 장소에는 arrive at을 씁니다. get to(= 도착하다)에는 to를 쓰지만, get home은 예외입니다. reach는 전치사 없이 바로 뒤에 장소가 옵니다.
|---|---|---|
| arrive | arrive in Hanoi / in Japan | arrive at the station / at the hotel |
| get | get to Hanoi | get to the station |
| reach (전치사 없음) | reach Hanoi | reach the station |

4.into와 out of
She walked into the room and turned on the light.

He took his phone out of his pocket.

Everyone ran out of the building when the alarm rang.
put, jump, get, fall 뒤에서는 “into”의 뜻으로 in도 자주 씁니다 — 둘 다 맞습니다: Put the milk in / into the fridge. 하지만 be, live, sit, stay 같은 위치 동사 뒤에는 in만 씁니다: The milk is in the fridge.
|---|---|---|
| car, taxi (작아서 몸을 숙이고 탐) | get in / get into | get out of |

영어는 탈것의 종류에 따라 전치사를 고릅니다: 몸을 안으로 넣어 타는 작은 것(car, taxi) → in / out of, 안에서 걸어 다닐 수 있는 큰 것이나 위에 올라앉는 것(bus, train, motorbike) → on / off. 타고 있는 상태도 마찬가지입니다: in the car, on the bus.
