Leçon 24 · Étape 2: Mots du quotidien : pronoms, articles, prépositions
Prépositions de mouvement : to / at / in / into
DébutantPrepositions of movement: to / at / in / into
Forme et emploi
go to work, arrive at / in, get into the car, out of the room — dire où va quelque chose
| Position : at / in | Mouvement : to | |
|---|---|---|
| Travail | I'm at work. | I go to work by bus. |
| Ville | She lives in Hue. | She moved to Hue last year. |
| École | The kids are at school. | The kids walk to school. |
| Événement | We were at a wedding. | We went to a wedding. |

Can you take this parcel to the post office?
Dès que tu te déplaces vers un endroit, utilise to : go to work, go to the market, go back to my hometown.
2.Home, here, there — sans to
Après un verbe de mouvement, home ne prend pas to : go home, come home, get home, walk home. C'est pareil pour go there, come here, go abroad, go downstairs. Mais la maison d'une personne précise prend quand même to : go to Lan's house. Et être chez soi, c'est at home.
I'm tired. Let's go home.
Je suis fatigué. Rentrons à la maison. (pas : go to home)
What time did you get home last night?
Tu es rentré à quelle heure hier soir ?

Stay at home if you feel sick.
(être chez soi : at home)
3.Arrive in / at et get to
Get to (= atteindre, arriver à) prend to, sauf get home.
|---|---|---|
| arrive | arrive in Hanoi / in Japan | arrive at the station / at the hotel |
| get | get to Hanoi | get to the station |
| reach (sans préposition) | reach Hanoi | reach the station |
We arrived in Hue just after midnight.
What time does the train arrive at Hanoi station?
How do I get to the night market from here?
Call me when you get home.
Appelle-moi quand tu seras rentré.
4.Into et out of
Into = aller de l'extérieur vers l'intérieur ; out of = aller de l'intérieur vers l'extérieur. In indique généralement une position (on est déjà dedans).
She walked into the room and turned on the light.

He took his phone out of his pocket.

Après put, jump, get, fall, on utilise aussi souvent in au sens de « into » — les deux sont corrects : Put the milk in / into the fridge. Mais après les verbes de position comme be, live, sit, stay, utilise seulement in : The milk is in the fridge.
5.Monter dans un véhicule et en descendre
| Véhicule | Monter | Descendre |
|---|---|---|
| car, taxi (petit — on se baisse pour entrer) | get in / get into | get out of |
| bus, train, plane, ship | get on | get off |
| motorbike, bike, horse | get on | get off |

L'anglais choisit la préposition selon le type de véhicule (là où le français dit simplement « monter » et « descendre ») : les petits dans lesquels on se glisse (car, taxi) → in / out of ; les grands dans lesquels on peut marcher, ou ceux sur lesquels on s'assoit (bus, train, motorbike) → on / off. C'est pareil pour la position : in the car, on the bus.
